Alex considered T'Kol's proposal and then admitted, "Although the deflector dish is not a very good receiver, we might be able to use it to push a signal through the energy field. The problem is that we know nothing about this unidentified energy field. We're as likely to make things worse, but right now, it is certainly worth considering. With so many types of sensor signals and frequencies to try, it could take quite a while to find one that penetrates it."
He then changed his approach, "I detected an area on their ship that seems to not be showing the energy signature that is building, so I informed Cindy about it and she is moving to it now. Keep an eye on the team and see if we're able to get a lock on them. I'm sure that she will try her best to get those people out of there."
The isolinear tags could indeed be useful for transporter functions, especially when there was not anything else to assist in achieving a lock on a target. He had even seen them used in darts to attach them to wild creatures that were being retrieved as samples. They were relatively simple and disposable, but could enhance the transporter process. Actual transporter enhancers were rather annoying to carry around, but if you have the time to set them up, they actually networked with the transporter system and functioned as an additional array booster subsystem to enhance the scanning signal from the target location.
A quick look at the monitor reminded him that the device was building up quickly now. Frankly, it was making him rather nervous. He wasn't worried about Cindy, but there were several people over there that would not likely survive the experience like Cindy would. If they didn't get out of there quickly, the entire team might be lost.
