Indigo plumes of ancient dust, ice and rock danced in whirling maelstrom as the lone Type-9A shuttlecraft dipped and maneuvered, the small vessels driver coils to stirring up cosmic detritus, scattering it like an unrestrained brushstroke against the canvas of stars. The pilot smiled despite herself, her excitement barely constrained - as unlimited as it was driven by the enormity of the life event that was about to take place.
The young woman had been thrilled to be selected to fly the shuttle of new crew to their new assignment. Sure, it was just across the sector, but still - she felt honored that the handlers at Starfleet Academy had considered her reliable to ferry herself and the small cadre of new graduates and enlistees to their new ship. But then, she *was* an officer in Starfleet now.
Midshipman Hallowette Maxas-Darl.
She had done it. She had succeeded. Almost Five years, a major, two minors and a very eventful Senior Flight Team tour had led her to this. Her last flight before she officially became a member of a Starfleet Ships crew; her dream realized. The beginning of something that made her more than just a girl dreaming of seeing the galaxy - the very real realization that she could make a difference in the universe. That she was more. That she was enough. She was a Starfleet Officer.
Looming before her was her destination and the cause of elation, anxiety, and nervousness housed by the streaking craft under her control.
[Shuttle La Fiere to USS (Assigned Vessel Here), permission to dock at your ready.] Hallowette chirped as she approached. She caught herself holding her breath as she awaited the ships response.
[USS (Assigned Vessel) to La Fiere, permission granted in Hangar bay 1. Welcome aboard folks.] came the reply.
"Well they seem nice." she said under her breath, her hands trembling slightly as a new dose of anticipation washed through her.
--
The shuttle entered the hangar and Hally relaxed her arms into her lap as flight bay's tractor beam guided the vessel to its resting place.
"Well, here we are." said an anxious looking crewman wearing the gold stripes of an engineer.
Next to him a denobulan female wearing teal grinned her species trademark broad smile. She placed a reassuring hand on the man's arm and nodded with affirmation, "Gordon, We have worked hard. We have achieved. You, we, are Starfleet. We deserve to be here."
Hally unbuckled herself from the pilots chair and swung herself out from under the console. She stood and took a moment to straighten her uniform. Black trimmed with red. She blushed slightly as she caught sight of herself in the reflective surface of the shuttle's canopy. She still grew harvest pimples around her spots when she saw herself in uniform. For a moment she saw her father looking back at her, and her thoughts darted to how proud he had looked as she crossed the stage and recieved her commission.
"Coming Hally? Don't want to be late for our first day!" teased the other commissioned officer aboard, a human female she knew well.
She averted her gaze from the reflection, suddenly self consious, and she grinned warmly and addressed her friend. "Meesha, Starfleet Pilots make time catch up with us." she said jokingly, echoing the oft mentioned mantra of one of her Academy instructors, the memory helping to calm the sudden burst of nerves that arose as the shuttle's hatch began to open, and the reality of the situation was made real. Just beyond was her future. Her career.
"Starfleet Pilots command the stars." she said quietly under her breath, finishing the mantra that she and her fellow flight team pilots had declared so many times before.
The moment had arrived, and Hallowette wasn't about to be the last one off the shuttle. This moment was hers. She stood straight, her slight frame seeming taller than her 1.57m. She squeezed past the others milling on the shuttle and made her way to the exit, Her booted feet stepping onto the deck of her new home, clapping softly as she made her way to the Officer standing near the entrance of the hangar holding a DATAPADD.
"Hallowette Maxas-Darl, Midshipman, reporting as ordered." she said with confidence and slight bravado. "I'm ready for duty Sir. Tell me where I'm needed."
The sparkle in her teal eyes held the smile she didn't allow on her face. She had made it.
