With the added power, the sensors were able to gain several AU worth of distance penetrating the nebula. Unfortunately, they would still only penetrate to about half the distance that the probes would be able to. While Artemis wouldn't be blind, they wouldn't be able to see much more than approximately double torpedo range - an uncomfortable distance, to be sure, but it still let Artemis see something before they could be fired at.
