There wasn't anything for him to do at the time, and he recognized the stress in her voice. It stood to reason that they were going to have to move. All he needed to do was push the button, just waiting for the order first. The away team  was set to come home, soon after they were going to leave. The statement about firing on the ship made him make a confused look, right now even activating weapons 

"Commander isn't there a chance that the Cardasians might think we have hostile intent?" He wasn't entirely sure about how it would play out, but was sure they stood a great chance of elevating the situation
