Samira was still getting to know the Aquila. It was a huge ship, after all, and it was roughly like living in a city. And she knew cities too well. The best that can be done is to get to know the labs, know the set-up. Scientific-minded as she was, she got it into her head from old Omar to keep up with her practice. Forensics were always so fascinating to her, as it had been since she left her...
Engrossed as she was, she stepped into the lab and looked up in surprise. "Oh! Commander Talion!" she said. She knew who her department head was, but she had been busy and had not been able to meet him until now. "My deepest pardons."
Alex's eyes turned in Samira's direction, but as his mind was still focused on the Cardassian conundrum, his brow was still looking very serious and he didn't look angry, but was certainly intense, almost as if he might stare his way through the problem. Then, as if a switch had been flipped, his eyebrows went up and a grin appeared, "Ah, Lieutenant Samira Khasim. No apology needed. In fact, it is I who perhaps owe you an apology. I've been quite busy lately and not gotten around to becoming more familiar with my staff."
Cindy gave a warm smile and spoke up, "He's also terrible about introductions. I'm his assistant and you can call me Cindy. I hope that you don't find the ship a bit too overwhelming. At times it will feel like you're on a station and takes some getting used to." She paused before continuing, "As part of my job, I am more familiar with your file than the commander is. I imagine this is both intimidating, yet exciting for you."
"Is that so?" asked Samira. "Well, Cindy, it's certainly...big. Certainly bigger than my first post. Still, the Yorktown was a fitting sort of first ship. The Aquila, on the other hand...yes, it does feel like a station."
Samira was certainly intrigued by Cindy. "Interesting," she said, and looked back and forth between her and Commander Talion. "Then I imagine you know I had an interesting place of origin, and how much I learned and why I chose the particular areas of expertise."
