Lt Thorn returned to Engineering. Her gear and outfit had been shiny and new when she had left. As she slowly walked to her locker, it looked like she had been dragged through at least the first few levels of hell. There were dings and scratches on it, some strange carbon scoring and even a dent or two. She wasn't even carrying all of her gear, as some of it had been used or lost on the mission.
It took her a while to manage to get out of her protective suit. It had done its job, but she would need a new one. Parts of it had been bent and were no longer quite functional. One of her boots had to have a clasp cut off to get it off of her foot. When at last she was out of it and had plopped herself onto a bench, trying to catch her breath, she looked at herself in a mirror that hung in the back of the locker. She was a mess. Kalli's hair was matted with sweat, she had a cut under her eye that now had dried blood on it and another on her brow. Her hands had a few red spots on them that she knew were minor burns that had made their way through her gloves. It was all going on a long mental list of things she would need to attend to...but not today.
She wanted to go and take a hot shower. The adrenaline was wearing off and the pain was beginning to set in. As she slowly slid on a jacket, to cover the fact that she had no top shirt on anymore, she picked up her small blinking device with her free hand. Pressing a button on the side of it, she said in a soft voice, "How you doing?"
A tiny voice replied, [My condition is nominal, but I regret to report that the drone is no longer functioning.]
Kalli gave a small sigh, "Sorry about that, but I'll get you a new one. Be sure to place a copy of the recorded data in the appropriate file locations for review. Flag for processing so all who need to know will be notified."
[Already in compliance. It was moved from the temporary holding to transfer locations as per your protocols.]
"Thank you, DeeDee."
There was a pause and then, [You're welcome...How are you doing?]
The reply caught her by surprise and made her grin, "All systems nominal, DeeDee."
