Jaein was pleasantly not surprised that the diagnostics turned up no issues. The ship was, as he had known, in excellent shape for this mission. So as the Artemis moved into position to deploy the latest probe, the Bajoran engineer sat back and listened.
Which was when things started to be interesting.
[Miller to Bridge, the second probe has deployed without any issues. However according to the telemetry that it's sending back, it's picking up a ship about 3000km inside the probe's outer range.]
Uh-oh, he thought. He knew that one of the stated reasons for setting up the probes was to try and curtail smuggling activity through the nebula, but he hadn't actually thought they might find something other than empty space. But it seemed like the universe was going to play tricks with him today.
He saw Grant, the tactical officer, move into activity as he tried to work out what the ship was. "Recommend we go to Yellow Alert until we can determine ship's origin," he told the captain.
For her part, Crawford was also swift on the alert. "Agreed," she said. "Take us to Yellow Alert. Helm, begin easing us further into the nebula to intercept. I want to know everything there is to know about that ship ASAP." The lights began flashing yellow, alerting the crew that something was amiss.
Jaein sent an alert down to engineering for damage control crews to be on standby. He didn't expect to need them, but he'd never been one to take chances. That done, he worked his console and tried to find out what he had available to transfer to other systems if - and when - it was needed.
==GM Input: what's available?==
