Hally sat quietly, her eyes scanning the probe data. Much of the information was superfluous and as her inexperienced eyes danced over it the scrolling information, her department head spoke up, "Captain, Recommend we go to Yellow Alert until we can determine ship's origin."
Ships origin? Aww crap, There's a ship???
The young woman focused her full attention on the data stream and finally latched onto the relevant info. 3000km or so, just inside the probe's furthest scan point.
She winced slightly. How did I miss this? I should have seen that immediately...
Hallowette shrugged off the feeling, knowing there would be time later to beat herself up over it. Luckily everyone else had seen it. In the time she had come to terms with the error Grant had noted the situation, recommended yellow alert and the Captain had confirmed it. As the ships consoles and lights displayed the new alert status Hallowette refocused on the task at hand, doing her best to ignore the growing shot of anxiety eating at away at her stomach like so many carnivorous lilyflies.
Prophets, this is happening! Yellow Alert on my first bridge shift!
She fought the nervous urge to giggle, allowing only the faintest of smiles to creep upon her flushed face. A moment later the Captain addressed her directly.
"Helm, begin easing us further into the nebula to intercept. I want to know everything there is to know about that ship ASAP." Crawford paused, then added, "And helm, how far off an intercept course is the third drop point for the probe? I'd like to know what else might be lurking back there if possible..."
To the young Midshipman's credit, despite the excitement that had just been poured over her, Hally went straight to work. As she began to ease the ship in the direction of the interloper she quickly ascertained the answer to the Captain's query, "Captain..." she calculated, then swiftly adjusted the course to better complete both tasks. "The unknown ship is approximately 3011 km from our current position. The third drop off point *is* a bit out of the way, but I think..."
Do you think or do you know? Hals, you know this. She heard the voice of her Father say in her mind.
"Sir, I am confident that I can plot a course that will be within the maximum range of the ships transporters, so shields will have to be dropped momentarily, but I believe this will allow us to both deploy the probe and still make best time to intercept."
==GM input (Hi GM!) - Is Hally correct in ascertaining a vector that allows both a nuanced and quick intercept, but also the placement of the third probe? Ty!==
