The Sickbay crew scrambled as more medics reported in. Red Alert meant 'all hands on deck,' so people would be showing up to their assigned stations in the ship's three Sickbays. Robin's words also applied to herself. She needed something to do that didn't involve hovering over her people and making them nervous. She'd had a recent talk with Doctor Sonaalk about micro-managing. She was CMO, but she was also a nurse. Sickbay had a well-drilled system for triage and assigning medics to wounded... but there were no wounded. So it was a waiting game.
One of the new staff was Ensign Liu, the new counsellor. She looked a little lost, which was fair. Strictly speaking her department was separate from Sickbay and reported to the Head Counsellor, but during Red Alert everyone was expected to help out. Given the recruitment problems Starfleet was having (especially in Medical) every warm body would be needed. After meeting the young woman the other day Robin had looked up her professional record. She was fully qualified as a field medic, but she hadn't had a station assigned and hadn't had the chance to work with the rest of the staff. The nurse remembered her first awkward days on the ship, not knowing anyone and just trying to be useful... of course, that was as the Artemis was gearing up for a near-suicidal battle with the Borg Megasphere.
Robin approached her. "Hey Ensign, since you're new here and haven't been given an assignment why not stick with me? I'm going to be running Triage, and if this actually turns out to be serious I could use someone to assign to mild injuries. It'll clear up people to work on critical patients. I can also run you though basic procedures here while we wait."
Yeah, I'll probably end up making her nervous, but that's part of the deal I guess. Who knew that tiny me could ever be intimidating?
