Miles' adjustments given the nebula's properties worked wonders, as Maxas-Darl was able to get them in perfect position for Miles' shots to bring the goH's shields down quickly. With few shots being needed to do so, Miles knew he would need to be careful on his continued assault to bring down the weapons and engines, as it became ever clearer how outmatched the goH was to an advanced ship like the Artemis. Miles couldn't let that train of thought keep him from focus, however, as that could mean the difference.
"The goH's shields are down," he reported, as he made to target their weapons and engines. Captain Crawford was quick to respond, apparently having noted when the shields went down around the same time Miles had.
"Grant, next target at your leisure," she stated. He gave a quick "Aye, Captain," as he set about using the same adjustments to target weapons first, then the engines. As he did so, he overheard the Captain making preparations with Calleja for the imminent boarding action. Assigning Givens to join had somewhat surprised Miles, given what had occurred in the briefing. Nevertheless, he trusted Crawford's judgment in the matter and focused on his own task at hand. As he got ready to fire the phasers to disable the weapons and engines, he addressed his Midshipman.
"Helm," he stated, "once I knock the weapons and engines of the goH offline, be ready to take a defensive orbit around them." Once he had given his orders to her, he ensured his targets one last time before firing, first at the weapons, then at the engines, small bursts effective enough to disable the systems, with a yield he believed to be low enough not to cause critical damage.
