AT/D04 - Officer's Lounge

Love was not something Hally was unfamiliar with - she had known crushes, infatuation and even the broken heartedness that many times accompanied the relationships of youth. She had never considered herself a natural beauty, definitely not like her mother - or her father for that matter, both of her parents routinely considered very attractive examples of their species. No, she was considered too short, too lanky, too boyish (as her grandmother had pointed out more than once) - most walls had more curves her. More than one friends parents had made the quip that "at least she had a good personality."

Hallowette's experiences dating as a younger woman consisted of boys within affluent Trill families looking for an in with her influential grandparents, or the occasional peer who was curious about how her hybrid genetics manifested in "less obvious ways". Rare was the date who genuinely showed interest in her as a person, at least until she got to the Academy.

The last few years had been kind to the auburn curly haired girl. As she matured the harsher aspects of her appearance had softened, and the subtle, more attractive parts of her genetic pairing had gently overtaken her less desirable features. She still was too lean and stick thin, and more than once when wearing a hat or other hair covering she had been mistaken for a male - but that was ok. In the Academy she found a variety of men and women among various species that saw her for more than her flaws, and her experiences dating had been more positive than not.

She listened quietly to Aeryn gush about Beka, and a content, happy smile sat on her freckled face.

Aeryn was undoubtedly beautiful. It's likely she never had any issue finding parties who found her desirable, which almost made her happiness that much more tangible. She had witnessed her own Father battle to find true love. He never seemed to have an issue with interested peers; time and again it was his own happiness that eluded him, sacrificed for that of others. And it was that way, at least for a time.

To see Aeryn speak with such genuine affection...it didn't take an empath to feel her joy, and get caught up in it as well.

"To Beka." Hallowette said softly, raising her empty glass. "And to love."
