Battle wasn't new for him, but he was glad to get this fairly low-key reintroduction to the concept. The last battle he had been in was during the Dominion War, having spent most of the intervening period between then and now either in system defense or, more predominantly, in construction. But the rhythms came back quite quickly.
So Jaein was pleasantly surprised when it turned out he wasn't likely to be needed. The freighter was fairly poorly armed, especially for a Klingon ship, and was failing to do much damage beyond draining the shields. He sent a message down to engineering to get the batteries tied in to them to make sure the shields recharged quickly as the first officer turned to him. "Mister Omdor, engage the tractor beam if you please," he ordered, and Jaein turned back to his console.
"Aye, sir," he said, and engaged the controls, trying to get a solid lock on the enemy ship. He targeted the most solid section he could find, around the bridge itself, to make sure they didn't have anywhere else to go, and said a quick prayer to the Prophets that they didn't have any hidden surprises to throw them off.
“Captain, the crew of the qoH are trying to do something with their engines," the young scientist working the bridge noted. "They’re putting too much power into them." That made him concerned, and he trained some sensors on the qoH to try and figure out what was going on. Uncontrolled energy buildups were a danger, not just to those aboard a ship but potentially those nearby - after all, the difference between an engine and a bomb was just how the energy was channeled.
