Dr Jon Jolly was in the CMO's office, preparing to go out on shore leave, when a communication from Earth came in for him. It was an old friend and colleague from Australia.
"Jon its so good to see you again, how are you?" Dr Gladstone asked. "Henry I'm well and you, are you well, long time no see?" Jon replied with a joyous smile. They spoke of old times together as your doctor in the out-back for some minutes until Henry Gladestone came to the reason for his out of the blue call. "Jon we need you back in Australia. I have a position open for training graduates in rural and out-back medicine. Your the first and only one I could think of that would be perfect for the job. Will you come back, please?" Jon was shocked, overwhelm even, and for a few second could speak. "I will give it some serious thought Henry, I will contact you tomorrow with my answer. Let me sleep on it." ==The Following Day, late in the evening == Jon put a call through to Dr Henry Gladstone in Adelaide South Australia. "Henry, Jon Jolly!" 'Yes, Jon," Henry immediately replied, "I've been expecting your call. I hope your answer is good news." Yes Henry, good news, I accept your offer. It will take me more that week to get back to earth, but I am coming back to Australia. I've missed the hot dusty plains and the rugged mountain ranges." The next day he made an appointment to meet with Captain Field and advise her of his decision to leave, to take up the training post in Australia, Earth.

The first day you start anything was always going to be the most difficult. there were many names for her to remember but only one for them. As she started to get familiar with the crew files, she read the most important information about them. Everyone had special needs when it came to their medical care, and sometimes the smallest of details makes all the difference. It was fortunate that the previous Chief kept the files up to date, it was a real treat not to have to reconfigure anything at this time.
The office was still bare, and the only picture she set up was from the Academy. It had her twin sister with Keti, all three were linked at the arm and in formal wear. It was one of her favorite memories of the time, it was during a dance that they held. All three were friends, and had a few great times together. Now she was on her own for the first time, and that was a mixed feelings. Being identical twins most people couldn't tell them apart, annoying when it came to the dating scene. Something that Evie wasn't ready for during the Academy years, she just wanted to be friends with people. Her uniform was hanging on the wall still, with Evie in just a loose fitting white tee and and some snug green shorts. Officially she wasn't on duty yet, nor had she reported in for duty quite yet. It was one of those rare times when everything was quiet, and as usual she was attempting to learn something. All she really needed was some soft Irish folk songs in the background and a comfortable chair.

Nurse Dawes was next door to the CMO's office in Sickbay's large medical storage closet. She had been tasked with double checking inventory before they left the Starbase for the next mission. Rumor was that it might be soon, and they were trying to get everything in perfect order before the new Chief Medical Officer arrived. She marked on her PADD where she was in her task, and pulled the case of dermal regenerator cartridges out a few centimeters to mark her place on the shelf and went to check it out.
When Charlie stepped out of the storage unit she was surprised to someone in the CMO's office. The woman was one of those people who couldn't help but be noticeably pretty, despite the fact that she was in shorts and a t-shirt. Not something that Charlie expected to see in Sickbay, much less the CMO's office. "Excuse me? Can I help you with something?" Charlie asked the stranger.

Keir was due for a physical and while passing by Sickbay s/he ducked in and heard a voice calling out ;
"Excuse me? Can I help you with something?" The voice sounded like Charlie Dawes, but s/he wasn't sure why she would be calling out in a confused tone of voice, Charlie was a senior Nurse and had been on the Titania since before Keir was so she should know who they were. S/he moved up and saw the reason for the confusion, and spoke up, speaking clearly enough to be heard by both, She did recognize the redhead in the office and addressed both women. "It's okay Charlie that is our new Chief Medical Officer; Lieutenant Evie O' Fee." Keir moved up noting that O' Fee was dressed casually, and spoke clearly so the woman wouldn't be startled. "Good Morning Doctor O'Fee, I am the Chief Engineer; Commander Keir77 and this is Ensign Dawes one of your senior nursing staff; welcome to the Titania," ==Tags all round==

While reading her files, the lead nurse came in and it wasn't surprising. Medical staff in a way were exactly like Security, nothing escapes their attention especially when it is something out of the norm. "Excuse me? Can I help you with something?" Charlie asked Evie, and this really did impress her, Sickbay had to be a well oiled machine.

"Good Morning Doctor O'Fee, I am the Chief Engineer; Commander Keir77 and this is Ensign Dawes one of your senior nursing staff; welcome to the Titania," The truth of the matter was Evie was relieved, it was the first time that the secondary question wasn't asked. The problem with being a twin, was they always got confused with each other. "Good morning." Evie started with her Irish accent. "Charlotte Dawes or as Keir here has called you Charlie, Searlait the Irish version of your name that I will use to express extreme emergencies when they come up. I am looking forward to serving with you, the notes here about you are impressive." Evie has always been strait with people, and manage expectations. "My actual name is Aoibheann, but only my mother calls me that. My Dad had a different name, one my sister and I have earned that one." She had a devilish smile. "Keir it is a pleasure to meet you, Chief Engineer who runs their department as efficiently as my own. I ask for forgiveness in advance, I might have the occasional slip of the pronouns. I have not had contact with Hermat people, and limited experience with people of gender reassignment. I do have to say I am impressed by your people, and their physiology." Evie stopped and looked at her uniform on the wall, she was not ready to put it on yet. "Thank you for the Welcome to the ship, I am proud to be part of the Family." Evie put down her reading material to focus exclusively on her company. She got up and went to the replicator making three Irish Rose drinks, they were cold refreshing and non Alcoholic. "I always enjoy meeting people over a nice drink, this is refreshing and not compromise our judgment." She handed her guests a drink. "I hope you enjoy this, its my favorite drink when I need to maintain focus." She still had a lot of reading to do about the physiology and Biology of the Hermat people, that way she was keeping ahead of need. "I would like to propose a toast." She lifted a glass. "To new friends in a grand adventure." She waited for the others to respond, and hopefully open up a little as well. ==Tags==

Charlotte stepped to the side as the Chief Engineer asserted hir presence announcing that the person in the CMO's office was in fact the new Chief Medical Officer. As Dr. O'Fee introduced herself, she reminded Charlie a bit of Dr. Jolly, the last CMO. He was talkative too, in a warm and most kind sort of way.
Charlie took the drink that Dr. McFee handed her. It wasn't something that she was familiar with, but she was good with anything that would help her maintain focus through the rest of her inventory project. "You know, I thought someone was trying to hijack your office earlier," Charlotte admitted. "We weren't expecting you yet." She lifted her glass and dipped her head briefly in the doctor's direction as she lifted her glass. "I'm looking forward to working with you." ==Tags==

The CMO appeared to be quite a change from the older, and more reserved Lt Jolly and s/he was going to reserve judgement on that til there was time to see how she behaved when on duty.
So, taking this as an impromptu gathering Keir accepted the glass and sipped carefully. S/he was not much of a drinker; being of small stature Keir had learned to measure hir consumption. S/he sensed that the new officer was slightly nervous and did hir best to relax with the moment. "You will truly love the DH quarters, it's more space than I have ever been given and my ..wife and I enjoy having the extra room." S/he had paused over the pronoun but Sam had already started using it so Keir relaxed. "I had come here to make sure I was up on all my physicals but I think we will have plenty of time going forward. So where was your last posting if I may ask?" ==Tags==

Evie knew that she wasn't expected for a little while still, but she was there early and wanted to capitalize on the time. She had a smile as Evie was listening. "I am much obliged for that, always keeping an eye out for our crew mates. I am equally looking forward to working with you as well." "You will truly love the DH quarters, it's more space than I have ever been given and my ..wife and I enjoy having the extra room." S/he had paused over the pronoun but Sam had already started using it so Keir relaxed. "I had come here to make sure I was up on all my physicals but I think we will have plenty of time going forward. So where was your last posting if I may ask?" Evie was about to answer, but there was something she didn't expect. She didn't take into account that she would have so much space, something she didn't have much of for a long time. "I think the space of the quarters is something I would need to climatize too, a lot of the time I never really did have my own space." No doubt that her sister was going through the same thing, but both of them knew this was going to happen. "Our last posting was in a forward area close to the Klingon border, so naturally it was anything but dull. The number one injury was broken bones, and internal bleeding. The surprising part was most of those injuries started in the bedroom. It is something completely exhilarating, and hard to explain. If you want to make a doctor blush, show up with a Klingon both bruised and battered. When they ask how it happened, just stare with a raised eyebrow." The first time was always the most awkward, but a couple times later it feels normal. "I am wondering is everyone on the crew as friendly as you two? Or is there anyone who people give a wide birth too for being not so friendly?" Sometimes there was someone who was always grumpy, and it seemed like they couldn't help themselves. ==Tag==

Charlotte listened with interest as Evie talked about her last posting. Not so much the bedroom injuries. Outside of combat, those antics were known to keep ERs busy on any planet. It was the location. She would love a posting on the Klingon border. She'd always been inexplicably drawn to the culture and the people. "I am wondering is everyone on the crew as friendly as you two? Or is there anyone who people give a wide birth too for being not so friendly?" Evie asked. "I don't know that I'm going to get in on any of that talk," Charlotte replied with a good-natured and somewhat mischievous smile. "I'll let you make your own judgments about everyone on board. Though Ensign Miller from engineering has a cat. The cat is the one you've actually gotta watch out for. She bites." Charlotte tasted the drink that Fee had brought them. It was both sweet and sour, and reminded her a bit of something she'd had before but she couldn't quite place it. "Your posting near the Klingon border though, I 'd love to hear some stories from that," Charlie said enthusiastically. "I've used some leave time to visit Qo'nos, but I haven't been so lucky as to land any postings nearby yet." ==tag== |
