== Welcome to your holodeck, Cadet Ghemor
Read the following information carefully, because it has a fair amount of important information for you. If you have any questions or difficulties at any time, please contact one of the following people for assistance. We’d be glad to help you out.
Commander Jasal
Commander Shanth
Captain Allen
Remember, during your time at the Academy, people have responsibilities such as school, jobs, and family, as well as maintaining our site. There are times when we may have to wait longer than we’d like for a reply to a post or a question. Patience and treating each other with respect and dignity are two things that are absolutely required of all members.
On the flip side, the Constitution states that players need to post at least twice a week. If you find you are unable to keep up due to something coming up in real-life responsibilities or you’re just going to be on holiday, please let one of the Admins know. You can be granted a leave of absence for the length of time you think you’ll be away. If you don’t let us know and you suddenly disappear, this could end with you being considered AWOL and eventually removed from the active cadet roster.
Now… with all of that said, let’s get to your character’s bio!
Please begin by posting your bio using the template below. Once posted, your bio will be reviewed by an Evaluations representative. They will post comments for you and suggest any adjustments your bio might require. Once they approve your bio, you will be assigned an instructor and your adventure will begin!
Federation Space is a written RPG. With that said, we ask that you try to pay attention to spelling and grammar in your posts. Posts properly formatted are easier and more enjoyable for everyone to read. I strongly recommend you run your bio and any posts you make through a spell check before posting them.
Next are a few resources that can help you as you write your bio:
Be sure to check out playable races.
Our character development page is a great resource to help you fill out your bio form.
One last thing, please take time to read and understand our site’s canon page. This will help you understand what 'Trek' related information is included on our site.
Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask! And as always - have fun!

==Good Morning! Before I went too hard on my bio, I wanted to see if a Human/Cardassian was an acceptable race mix to play? Also, I was reading the rules on Avatars, is it acceptable to use a photo from like DS9 but have photoshopped all the hair, eyes and features to make the person look different?==

== Hi Cadet, to answer your questions, yes you can play a Human/Cardassian & the pic you want to use for your avatar would depend on the level of Photoshop, however we look forward to seeing what you come up with and go from there :-) ==

PERSONAL HISTORY
Date of Birth: July 7th
Place of Birth: Star Base Alpha
Marital Status: Single
Children: N/A
Siblings Name & Ages: Half-Brother, Luke Dixon, Human, 10 years old.
Mother's Name: Natasha Dixon, Human, 55 years old, School Teacher.
Father's Name: Jarki Ghemor, Cardassian, 60 years old, Cardassian Ambassador.
Stepfather’s Name: Rick Dixon, Human, 57 years old, Works at The Daystrom Institute.
Parent's Status: Natasha and Rick both reside on Earth with their son, Luke. Natasha continues to work as a schoolteacher while Rick continues his research and development at The Daystrom Institute. Neither Natasha nor Lira has heard from Jarki in about 16 years, so both women had come to the agreement that they will assume he was deceased.
Pets: N/A
Best Friend: Sean Heaven, Vulcan, 26 Years old. Sean and Lira met at the Academy about a month or so after classes started. Sean was perusing science. The two would often have lunch together, and Sean would give her insights into security and fight stratigies.
Personal History: Her parents, Natasha and Jarki, met a year or two after The Federation/Dominion War. Jarki was an Ambassador that had been going back and forth between Earth and Cardassia. After a short, few months of relationship, Jarki returned to Cardassia; no reason was given. It wasn’t until weeks later after Jarki left that Natasha found out she was pregnant.
Lira was born on Star Base Alpha. Natasha had secured a shuttle to the Star Base as Jarki was going to meet her there. She had been born with all normal Cardassian Ridges, but her skin was peach colored, and she was warm blooded. Her skin was also smooth outside of her ridges. Lira was very self-conscious until her mother started taking her to the school she worked at, and Lira got to see all the other different species of children.
Over the next 10 years, Natasha would bring Lira to see Jarki on Star Base Alpha from time to time. Natasha was never sure why Jarki wouldn’t visit Earth properly. Between thoes times Natasha would often send a video message to Jarki if she had a question about Cardassians, such as Lira’s extreme dislike for cold but her being able to thrive in heat. Natasha found out that this has to do with Lira’s Cardassian Ridges being able to dissipate heat faster and more effectively than humans but is unable to warm herself up completely in the cold.
Out of nowhere, around age 10, Jarki stopped coming to the meeting spots. Natasha stopped receiving any messages from Jarki at all. After a year of not hearing from Jarki, Natasha gave up and since Jarki hadn’t formally recognized them in the Cardassian Union, they would not speak to Natasha.
It wasn’t until She turned 13 that her mother met Rick, who worked at The Daystrom Institute, during a class field trip. Natasha and Rick played it slowly and didn’t start living together until about a year later. Lira was very open to the idea of her mother finding someone else, especially after Jarki’s disappearance.
When Lira turned 15, Rick and Natasha got married. Rick also started to bring Lira to work, hoping that the engineering side would spark under her Cardassian heritage, but the only thing it did was allow Lira to notice that people like Rick and his colleagues were important with all their research and that they needed people to protect them.
Lira’s mother, Natasha, got pregnant that same year, giving birth to a little boy 9 months later, Luke. Lira got very jealous very quickly when Luke was born fully human, but Rick had already speculated that it would happen, so he started taking Lira to The Daystrom institute more. This is where Lira really honed her security skills, instead of engineering. She started finding flaws and confusing protocols and called them into question. A visiting Starfleet Admiral overheard her speaking and suggested that Starfleet could use someone as resourceful as she was. She didn’t think much about it until Rick told Natasha about it during dinner that night. Natasha told Lira that it would be a great career path and it would give her something to be proud of.
Lira started looking into Starfleet, she did a lot of research over the next two years before applying at the age of 18. It took her until her second try to pass the test. Once she was accepted and started her classes, that is when she meets Sean, a Vulcan who was pursuing science with a hint of medical. She and Sean got along very well, studied a lot together, and he would give her scientific insights into strategies and fights.
PERSONALITY
Academy Majors: Security
Academy Minors: Phasers/Rifles and Close Quarters Combat
Hobbies & Past-Times: Running holodeck security scenarios, playing chess, or complex puzzle games. She loves the elegant, multi-generational Cardassian novels (like The Never-Ending Sacrifice or similar epics) that span decades or centuries, emphasizing duty, sacrifice, and family loyalty.
Short-Term Goals: To prove to everyone that she is more than just a hybrid Cardassian, that she is someone that is loyal and trustworthy.
Long-Term Goals: Despite her and her mom declaring her father deceased after all communication stopped, she secretly has set a goal to one day figure out what happened to him.
Personality: She is warm, thoughtful, and quietly determined, a blend of her loving Earth upbringing under her mom and her Cardassian heritage. On the surface she comes across as approachable, polite, and empathetic, yet there’s a steady, disciplined core beneath it that reveals the Cardassian influence. She’s not flashy or loud; she’s the type of person who observes more than she speaks.
Sense of Humor: Her humor is dry, understated, and gently witty.
Phobias: Cryophobia, irrational fear of extreme cold, ice, or frost.
Likes: Warm/Spicy Foods & Drinks, Strategic Games & Puzzles,
Dislikes: Being pitied, babied, or assumed "Fragile" due to her hybrid nature, dislikes small talk that stays shallow; anyone touching her ridges without permission.
Pet Peeves/Gripes: She inherited a Cardassian appreciation for a meticulous, long-term strategy. Last-minute changes, vague briefings, or “we’ll wing it” attitudes drive her up the wall. She sees it as reckless. Overly emotional outbursts during serious situations. She values composure, even if she’s learned to express feelings healthily.
Bad Habits/Vices: She struggles to fully trust new people, especially authority figures or Cardassians. She is always looking for hidden motives — a subtle Cardassian-style paranoia mixed with a fear of abandonment.
Achievements: She was memory contest champion for multiple years in her teens, her ability to recall from her Cardassian side aided her a lot in this. She also excelled in school martial arts, self-defense clubs, or track-and-field events (endurance running or obstacle courses).
Disappointments: Struggling with hybrid health issues in public, during cooler Earth winters, her cold sensitivity episodes (shivering, fatigue, or needing to leave activities early) made her feel weak. Not having more friends when she was younger due to the stigma from just ending Dominion War.
Illnesses: She frequently complained of being "freezing," (Shivering, fatigue, or even mild lethargy/low energy) during cooler months on Earth. She bundled up extra warm if she went out.
Strengths: Her full ridges aid in heat dissipation and regulation, inherited from reptilian-ancestry traits. That combined with human warm blood (stable internal temp), she can handle extreme heat better than pure humans without tiring as fast, while still functioning well in standard Federation temps.
Weaknesses: Her ridges are still highly sensitive like normal Cardassians. Her Peach skin lacks the tougher, scale-patterned durability of full Cardassian skin. Her ridges will often shed & regrow, but her body/soft skin won't.
Fears: She fears people are secretly judging her once they notice the ridges. This breeds loyalty anxiety—she works twice as hard to earn trust and might preemptively distance herself to avoid rejection.
Prejudices: She believes her Cardassian half is inherently “tainted” or morally suspect—seeing Cardassians as the galaxy’s bullies who occupied Bajor, allied with the Dominion, and caused millions of deaths.
QUESTIONS
Most Painful Experience: The most painful experience in her life that seemed to shape her the most was when her birth father, Jarki, had decided to completely ghost them. Even if he had died somehow, she felt that she wasn’t even important enough to him for him to have set up a way for her to be contacted.
Best Time: The best times in her life so far, oddly enough, were all the times she went to Star Base Alpha to meet with Jarki. It was fascinating to her to see all the different people and all the things they were doing. She would often see a lot of people trading or boarding ships to other places to go.
Most Crucial Experience: The crucial moments that shaped her life were all the times she spent at The Daystrom Institute with Rick. This showed her that while Science and Engineering are important, there had to be someone with them to keep them safe and to protect them from harm.
Role Model: Although a lot of people would say that her role model would be her mom, it is not. Her role model is her Stepfather, Rick. She was very thankful that not only did he make her mother happy, but he also accepted her without prejudice. He stepped up and shaped her life when he didn’t have to.

She and Sean got along very well, studied a lot together, and he would give her scientific insights into strategies and fights.
Around the middle of her second year, news spread about a war between the Talarian Republic and Cardassian Union. She found herself mostly isolated from the other cadets for this due to the stigma still surrounding Cardassians. Except for Sean, who defended her at every t urn and stated that ‘Blaming someone for their species actions and not their true worth was illogical.’.
Around her 3rd year, during a small holiday break, as the Federation holds “The Frontier Day Celebration”, Sean advised he was going be heading back to Vulcan for a week as he was starting Pon-Farr. Lira, being worried about her friend, asked if she could go along, Sean agreed and Lira was off planet at the time of the attack and massacre on Earth.
Once everyone was allowed to return, Lira and Sean spent a lot of their 4th and 5th years researching what had happened. Lira studied the attacks, formations and strategies that were used, citing at even if the Borg was fully and completely eliminated as threat, history should never be forgotten. In between those times, Sean would help Lira study for her upcoming final exam. Sean had been planning to take more courses that Lira so he was not going to be graduating for a few years.

== Thank you for making those changes Cadet, congratulations your bio has now been approved and your Instructor will start your lessons shortly :-) ==
== Greetings Cadet Ghemor, and welcome to Federation Space RPG, otherwise known as Fed Space. Fed Space is a great game and community. My name is Lieutenant Black, I’ll be your Academy Instructor, helping you get ready for your time on ship. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask me here or dm me.
Before we move on to the first lesson, I want to make sure you're aware of the great resource our wiki provides. It has a lot of information, including what your department duties will be. Take some time to review:
https://wiki.fed-space.com/index.php?tit...ty_Officer
The wiki also includes an Academy section that contains a lot of resources for you. Be sure to take some time to review them, especially the New Cadet FAQ, while you’re there. We’ll use the wiki later in our lessons, so it’s helpful for you to start navigating it now.
With that out of the way, let’s get started: Lesson one: Formatting basics
Third Person, Past Tense:
Fed Space has players all over the world, so we use a standardised set of formatting rules. By using one style, it makes it easier for everyone to follow and understand each other’s posts.
The first thing to know is that we post in third person, past tense. An example of this style of writing would be: Amelina was so excited to be finally taking her final examination, she fell off her seat. NOT: I fell off my seat because I was so excited to take my final examination.
We also use double spacing between paragraphs and character’s spoken lines. This means when you write a spoken line with quotation marks “ ”, leave a space after. This makes it easier for players to follow. A good rule to follow is ‘When in doubt, double space!’
Your Character’s Internal Thoughts
To show your character’s own thoughts, we use italics. When writing your character’s thoughts, it’s acceptable to write in first person. An example of showing my character’s thoughts would look like: I can’t wait to visit my home town again and see my Father
Showing Emphasis
To make something really stand out in your post, such as if your character was shouting, we use bold text. An example of showing emphasis for my character would look like: Black loved a good cup of coffee, especially with a bit of cinnamon.
Telepathic Communication
In general, it is rare for a character to have the ability to communicate telepathically, and because of this, it is closely monitored by our Senior and Commanding Officers to make sure it isn’t abused. With that said, there are a few telepathic races on Fed Space, and on occasion, telepaths will speak to each other through this unique skill. Telepathic communication is shown like this:
~ Hello, I am speaking directly into your mind. ~
If your character is not telepathic, then, in general, you won’t need to worry about this technique, but I want you to be aware it exists in case you see crewmembers on your ship or others using it.
Using Communication Badges or Comm Badges
Characters can often receive verbal communications through a communication device, such as a comm badge, from another crew member or the computer. When receiving a message, you should drop the quotations “ ” and instead use brackets [ ].
For example, if I received a message from another officer, it would look something like this:
[Captain Allen to Lieutenant Black, please report to Holodeck 5.]
If you are the one speaking to somebody through a comm device, you would still use the quotations “ ”.
Out Of Character posting or OOC:
OOC posting is what I’m doing now. OOC text is surrounded by == ==. Use OOC when you want to talk to another player and not write it as part of the storyline. You won’t need to do this in general discussion areas, such as your ship’s OOC sections like Crew Announcements, as well as in Hailing Frequencies.
Proofing Posts:
When writing a post, it’s important to take time to run your posts through the spell check that many writing software offers. Spell check won’t find all grammar and spelling errors, but it will find many and help correct errors found. Rereading your post can help catch errors. We don’t need anyone to be a speller or grammar whiz, but taking the time to do this extra step will make it easier for everyone to understand what’s written.
A good way to get the feel of these formatting rules and to get a feel of the site in general is to browse the different ship forums. Take some time to look at the different ships. Take time to notice how our players use the elements listed above.
With all that said, let’s get to some posting! Your first assignment is to respond to my post using the above formatting elements. If you have any questions, ask. Good luck and have fun! ==
== Holodeck 06 - 12:00 hrs ==
Theresa stood outside the holodeck, arms crossed with her PADD tucked under her arm. She'd served as a Security officer in her early career. A part of a career that was best left unspoken. But at least that left her qualified to take the final assessment for this cadet, having once stood where they would be soon.
Checking the time, she tapped her badge. “Lieutenant Black to Cadet Ghemor.” She said, her distinctive high pitched west-country accent echoing in the corridor. “Please report to Holodeck 06 for assessment.”

Lira was sitting in the cafeteria having lunch with her best friend, Sean. She held her fork in her hand slightly above the plate.
“I was thinking about that new defensive-“ She began to speak but she was promptly cut off by a communications message coming in.
[Lieutenant Black to Cadet Ghemor. Please report to Holodeck 06 for assessment.]
Her eyes widened as she looked at Sean. She gently set her fork down on her plate and stood up.
Now?
“I guess my time is here.” She nodded at Sean, who nodded back.
She took her plate and placed it back into the replicator before taking a deep breath and heading to the holodecks. She quickly approached Holodeck 06 and fixed her uniform before stepping forward, letting the doors slide open.
She approached Lieutenant Black, her hands clasped in front of her.
“Reporting as requested Lieutenant.”

== Excellent, you got the hang of that bit. Let's move onto... ==
Lesson two: Plots, GM Input, Character Hijacking, and New Content:
We have two types of plots here on Federation Space: the main plot and subplots. Main plots affect the entire ship and are directed by a Game Moderator (GM). Subplots are an underlying story being told within the main plot. A subplot can be run by any player with prior approval of the ship’s CO (or FO).
An example of the difference between the two: The main plot is about the ship falling under attack. A subplot would be a character dealing with an on ship pregnancy or maybe trying to write the next great holonovel.
GMs:
Game Moderators (GMs) guide the ships’ missions along. Every ship has a mission, of which only the GMs of a ship know the mission details.
Your job is to write what your character sees and what their reaction is. The GM will provide any unknowns about the plot. This input will have significance to the direction of the mission. This is why characters should keep posts open ended on anything that might affect the mission’s direction or outcome. As your character performs an action, such as performing a diagnostic scan, leave the result of the scan unknown. The GM will explain what the outcome of the action is.
When you need GM input on something, for example results of a diagnostic scan, one only has to make a request at the end of the post. The request can look like:
== GM Input, please? ==
Or it can also be a more specific request, such as:
== GM Input: Result of the diagnostic, please. ==
Take a look around at the active ships on Federation Space to see characters ask for GM input.
Character Hijacking:
The next element we’re going to cover is character usage. Unless you have permission from the player, you cannot post any speech, thoughts or movements for another character (PRC or NRC) that isn’t yours, unless the character has already done so in game. This is called character hijacking and is not permitted on Fed Space. Some players might not mind, but even minor things such as a nod of the head or a shrug of the shoulders can be considered hijacking.
For example, if you write in your next post that Captain Maddie Allen suddenly appeared and started dancing the Hokey Pokey, you would have hijacked another character.
Character Movement on Ships:
I’m sure you have noticed a ship has multiple threads on it for various locations that a player can post, such as the bridge, sickbay, and security offices. Often times while on a mission players travel throughout the ship to accomplish their orders. To help follow the plot when a player is transitioning from one thread to another they should make a notation at the end their post like this: >> Sickbay >> The arrows and location found at the bottom of a post tells readers where this character will post next.
When the player makes their next post, the player should make a notation at the beginning of their post like this: << Bridge << The arrows and location found at the top of a post indicate that is where a player has just come from.
Time for more writing! In your next post, continue showing your use of our formatting techniques you learned in lesson one and ask for GM input. I will be acting as your GM. ==
== Holodeck 3 ==
“Reporting as requested Lieutenant.” Said Ghemor as she stood before Black.
Theresa noted that the young woman stood about the same height as her as she pulled out her PADD and began inputting a few details.
“Good afternoon, Cadet.” She began. “I'll be assessing you through this, your final examination.”
She paused to give the Cadet a chance to ask her anything before they began.
Gesturing toward the opening doors of the holodeck, she said; “You will be part of an away mission. Downed shuttle craft. Good luck.”
The as the doors closed, the surface of an unknown planet shimmered into existence as if Ghemor had just been transported to the surface. It looked Earth like, but there was something a little disconcerting about it. Black was now nowhere to be seen.
Two other team members were present however. A medic and one other.
“The signal is coming from that direction.” Said one of them gesturing with their tricorder. “We need to hurry, it'll be dark soon.”

Lira looked around as the planet shimmered into existence, her gaze eventually fell on the two other team members. She felt on edge about something that caused her muscles to coil tightly like springs but couldn’t place the cause.
I really don’t like this.
“The signal is coming from that direction.” Said one of them gesturing with their tricorder. “We need to hurry, it'll be dark soon.”
She pulled out her phaser, setting it to level one as she moved to walk in front of the other two members of the team. Her eyes darted around as she moved slowly, her phaser steady at her hip for quick deployment.
“Is there a reading on any lifeforms?” She asked.
==GM Input: Does the medical team member’s tricorder detect any lifeforms? Also, what is the current temperature, humidity and barometric pressure? Asking due to Lira’s scales being just as sensitive as normal Cardassians.==
==Brilliant. Let's keep the momentum going.==
== Lesson three: NRCs, character usage, and site navigation:
Non-rated characters, or NRCs, are characters used by players as well as GMs to help fill crew gaps in ships. Starships usually have large crews and since we don’t have enough players to fill all those roles, we use NRCs.
We have two types of NRCs: Independent and Temporary.
Independent NRCs are like a Player Rated Character (PRC), in that they get played as their own character. These NRCs are registered and you can distinguish them through their character names. You’ll see something along the lines of Ensign Doe {Allen}, with the PRC character’s last name in brackets at the end. And while these NRCs are similar to PRCs, they are not a second rated character (SRC). They also do not earn points or medals as you would with your PRC. Also, your PRC must be a Lt [JG] or higher and have the approval of your Commanding Officer to create an Independent NRC.
Temporary NRCs on the other hand, can be created by anyone. They are not as developed as Independent NRCs or PRCs and they do not have bios. They are usually created for quick tasks, and are used for times when you need to post with other players on the ship.
To make a Temporary NRC post, all you need to do is place an OOC notation at the top of the post. You’ll probably see several variations, but they typically look like:
==Ensign John Doe, Temp Engineering NRC ==
In the case of both NRCs, you play the character from the NRCs perspective, almost as if you have a second character. You can only play an NRC that is one rank higher than your own. This means that if you’re an Ensign, you can have NRCs that are Midshipmen, Ensigns, or Lieutenant Junior Grades.
Navigating the Fed Space Wiki
The Fed Space wiki offers a great resource to help you out with your posts. Be sure to spend some time to check it out. The information on the wiki is also ‘Fed Space canon,’ which can sometimes differ from Star Trek canon, so look there first when you’re researching something. Don’t feel limited to only looking at the wiki pages for your department, because the other departments will have information you’ll find quite useful.
As previously mentioned, Fed Space canon differs slightly from that of Star Trek, mainly because this game happens 40+ years after the Dominion War. Since the Dominion War, there have been many conflicts and wars. It’s been very rocky, but all the history from the start of Year 1 to the last entry on that page have been written and played here on Federation Space. Make sure you spend some time checking out our site history.
To help you get used to the organization of our wiki, please answer the following questions in OOC.
1. How many settings are there on a Type-2 Phaser Pistol?
2. Which Security Procedure occurs during a Red Alert?
3. On which decks would you find the Security Complexes on a Ross Class vessel?
After answering the questions, continue with another post. In your post, please continue the story with either Doctor D'eth or Midshipman Romer as your Temporary NRC. Feel free to invent whatever details you want about them. Have fun! ==
== GM Input: The Tricorder is detecting two lifeforms from the direction indicated by the medic. They don't seem to be fairing too well. Other than them and your team, no other lifeforms are detected. At all. P=30.18 inches, H=69%, T=56.4f. The temperature is dropping. ==

a. There are 6 Settings
2. Which Security Procedure occurs during a Red Alert?
a. During a red alert, interior lights are dimmed, red alert lights flash and an alarm blares. After 60 seconds, the alarm shuts off. Weapon systems and shields are brought to full power. Critical systems are secured. The crew’s state of readiness goes to General Quarters Two.
3. On which decks would you find the Security Complexes on a Ross Class vessel?
a. Decks 8 & 28

Lira was taken aback by the lack of any kind of lifeform aside from the three of them and the two, possibly injured, up ahead. Her suspicion grew rapidly, her senses now heightened as she prepared some kind of trap.
Why does that seem a little strange?
She kept her eyes forward as she kept moving slowly. As she walked, she rolled her shoulders and rubbed the back of her neck, trying to stimulate blood flow to her ridges. Thankfully the humidity was high enough to ensure that her ridges did not dry out. It was unpleasant currently but not debilitating.
Wow. It feels heavy.
The pressure was slightly elevated to what she was used to on Earth, giving her a faint sinus headache but she was determined to push through it.
== Doctor D'eth, Temp Medical NRC==
D’eth looked at the tricorder readings as they walked. He wasn’t sure why there weren’t any other lifeforms at all. He expected maybe some animals. Something about all of this seemed very illogical to him.
“We are getting close; they aren’t fairing very well.” He said firmly.
He stayed between Lira and Midshipman Romer as they approached a clearing. His hand clutched onto his medical bag tightly.
==GM Input: What does the team see as they enter the clearing?==
== Awesome work. ==
== Lesson Four: Participation Points, Rank, Chain of Command:
Participation Points and Rank:
Participation points are issued on the first of every month. This system is in place is to allow for the progression of ranks. Once a character earns a certain amount of points, they’ll receive a promotion to the next rank. There are a few caps in place because, lets face it, over time without the caps the site would be overrun with captains and admirals with nowhere for them to go.
To access the monthly points charts, click on the Red Alert thread on our forums page, then Monthly Point Tables. Read more about participation points, positions, and rank caps in the Federation Space Constitution.
Participation points are awarded by the Commanding Officer (CO) and approved up the chain of command by the Fleet Commander (FC) and finally, the Commander in Chief (CinC). Everyone earns participation points every month, depending on how active a player you are, and can vary between each CO. If you have any questions about how your CO awards points, please go up your chain of command when you are assigned to a vessel. They will gladly let you know their policy.
Another way for you to earn points is to hold various site positions, such as Department Head (DH), First Officer (FO), Commanding Officer (CO), etc. or through earning medals. A list of medals and their point values are found on the medals page on the wiki. Medals are typically awarded to players who go above and beyond what is expected on the site.
While we do have a points system in place, it is suggested you don’t play for the sole reason of collecting points or positions. Your enjoyment will be more if you write and take part in things for the fun of it, and not an attempt to ‘win’. This community is about writing, growing your character, and being a part of the Fed Space family.
As mentioned above, there are several ranks you can achieve over time. The abbreviated forms and names are listed below.
Mid – Midshipman
Ens – Ensign
Lt (JG) – Lieutenant (Junior Grade)
Lt – Lieutenant
LCdr – Lieutenant Commander
Cdr – Commander
Capt – Captain
Cmdr – Commodore
RAdm – Rear Admiral
VAdm – Vice Admiral
Adm – Admiral
FAdm – Fleet Admiral
Chain of Command:
The Chain of Command is the order in which you should follow should you require any assistance with an issue or have any questions or concerns in or out of game. There are explanations of each rank provided in our Constitution.
We’ll start with the first person you would contact and continue from there:
Department Head (DH)
First Officer (FO)
Commanding Officer (CO)
Commander in Chief (CinC)
Posting Rates and Leave of Absence:
Fed Space is an RPG that is made of players from all over the world. Because of this, we ask you to have patience with other players, realizing it might take a few days for a reply. As in our Constitution, you should post a minimum of twice a week.
If you find you can’t make that posting rate, email your DH, FO, and CO and request a Leave of Absence (LOA). In your email, request your need an LOA, letting them know the reason and when you expect to return. Doing this can avoid players wondering where you’ve gone to, or you wondering where another player has gone to. It can also keep you from being considered Absent Without Leave (AWOL), which will cause your account to be suspended.
More questions for you to answer:
1. How many points would you need to reach the rank of Lieutenant?
2. What is the chain of command for the Security department on the USS Yeager?
3. Which piece of Security equipment can only be issued after specialized training and permission of the Chief of Security, First Officer and Captain.
4. Have a look at the active starships on the site. List your top three ship assignment preferences. This doesn’t mean you will be assigned to one of those you list as another ship might be in need of an officer in your department.
After answering our questions, please continue the story, remembering to use the formatting techniques you have learned, and request GM input as needed. If you have any questions, please ask. Have fun! ==
== GM Input: The clearing wasn't originally a clearing. More of a elongated shallow crater. As the team approached, radiation levels began to rise as quickly as the sky darkened and temperature dropped. The last wisps of smoke drifted in the air.
The lifeform scans were now definite. They looked to be Medusan. ==
