TI/D01 - Ready Room

Jane perused the latest personnel changes to happen in between assignments. They still had some personnel issues to resolve before being sent on next assignment but hopefully they would be back out there soon.

The biggest changes were that two DHs had gone. She was sad to lose CMO Lim especially and wished that they had been able to retain such an experienced officer. But people did move on for various reasons. Morgenson had another posting, the young Security Chief was getting experience elsewhere which she thought was a good thing for such a green officer. He had potential and getting experience of other ships would help him realise it.

The surprise was that the replacement CoS was someone very familiar. Shione Kurasa had left, it seemed anyway, but briefly, and now was transferring back from Philadelphia. Kurasa had been on her crew on Copernicus and then Titania and she knew her well. She wondered what the story was.

The grass isn't always greener I guess...

Shione was an exemplary security officer, but had a tendency to wrap up the CO in cotton wool and that was not something she wanted to repeat. She hoped that the Security officer had loosened up a bit in her time away. Jane understood this urge as a former CoS herself, but if only her officers could understand that she was quite capable of handling herself. Being CO didn't mean you were the Federation President and had to be kept in a box. Jane had enjoyed the freedom of the last mission and intended to repeat it if possible.

Jane opened a channel:

"Fields to Kurasa, please report to my ready room."

Well, that went rather quickly, I thought the Captain was busy

She had only been aboard less than a day, exhausted by the alterations to the assignment she had been initially given. Shione had been assigned to Serran Zan's ship but to make a long story short, the whole assignment became a complete cluster%^$*..

Shione should have been sent back with the Trill officer but for some reason she had been retained, but under the command of Captain Jennifer Braggins. To say that their relationship was oil and water was an understatement and so when the opening back aboard the Titania became available, she was quick to accept it.

That is one person I will never miss, good riddance; she thought

Entering the familiar ready room, she smiled inwardly that very little if anything had changed. Fields was a person of habit, and generally for Shione that was exactly what she preferred.

We didn't always agree but we usually were able to compromise.

Standing to attention, just inside the door, she spoke officially "Lieutenant Commander Kurasa reporting for duty, Ma'am. "

And the added with the slightest of grins "Happy to be back Captain"

It was nice to see the familiar visage enter through the swishing door. Kurasa was amazonian, tall and muscular. Typical security type in that sense.

Jane smiled and rose up to offer a handshake.

"Welcome back, Lieutenant Commander. Help yourself to anything from the replicator and take a seat."

She returned to her own seat.

"I am pleased but a little surprised to see you back so soon..."

Shione nodded in appreciation, "Thank you Captain, I just finished a meal so I am good ", she added and took the proffered seat.

"Thank you, Yes Captain it was quite a surprise for me as well. And it took quite some time to sort it out." She paused gathering her thoughts.

"As you know I was requested to join Captain Serran Zan's command as her Chief of Security and for a short time all seemed well, however for some reason unknown to all aboard, she was called back to Star Fleet command and Captain Jennifer Braggins was assigned in her place.

I remained under Captain Braggins's command for two missions fulfilling my obligations, but when I received news that your ship was once again in need, I felt it was time to move back. "

She paused momentarily before completing her thoughts, "As I am certain you know that each and every Captain does things differently. But after spending what I felt was sufficient time with Captain Braggins I chose to accept the assignment here where I felt that the opinions and input of the Security department were both requested and respected prior to making decisions which affected the security of the crew.

There was no disagreement between the Captain and I. I merely chose to leave just prior to another mission start, giving the Captain time to adjust. Captain Braggins is an excellent and skilled leader, but I chose to return to a command where I believe that my opinion, while not always correct, will at least be consulted by you before you make decisions which affect the Security team as well as the Ship and crew as a whole."

She finished her thought. "I do not believe I am always right, but I know from experience with you Captain that you will at least ask.
And here I am."

Jane listened attentively as Kurasa explained her reasons for returning to Titania.

"Yes, you know me, input is always welcome. Though I may prefer a lighter touch in some respects. I know you always have the safety of the ship and crew in mind."

She moved on.

"Well, if there are any requests, let me know. It is good to have you back."

Jane strode in through the swishing door and stood behind her desk awaiting the arrival of Sothrick and Keti.

Sothrick wasted no time as he was on the heels of the Captian. He wanted to know how to correct his mistake so that this would not slow the progression of finding the new mystery at hand.

He stood ridged (not much of a change for him) at full attention awaiting for the dressing down he was sure was about to happen.

"Captain!" He simply gave.

Not to far behind him was Keti, he knew better than to keep people waiting. He was not really sure what was going to happen, and chose to stay mostly quiet. As he observed how both were situated and stood next to Sothrick, and stood next to him standing at attention. "Captain." He simply said, he was probably in enough trouble.

The two officers arrived and presented themselves.

She folded her arms a paused for a few seconds, unfolding her arms again before leaning forward on the desk.

“I’m sympathetic to the fact that you both have joined my crew from rather different positions and that this new situation will take some adjustment... as will getting used to different way of doing things that is inevitable on a new ship.” She started with a friendly enough tone.  “However, Mister Keti you have twice broken protocol on my bridge in quick succession, despite a verbal warning from me. Once is unfortunate, twice seems like carelessness…” She fixed her eyes on the Science officer. Her voice now more authoritative. “Enthusiasm and ideas are encouraged; suggestions and solutions at all times are very much encouraged. Those suggestions or solutions come to me - or whoever is in the command chair if not me. They do not go through department heads, they do not get directed to others on the bridge. You address the Captain, you make suggestions to the Captain, such as, for example, who might be best on a team... You ask and must get the Captain’s permission.”

She stood up straight again and folded her arms looking between both. "You never bypass the Captain." Her expression was pensive.

Sothrick hadn’t actively contributed to this situation and had been placed in an awkward position by Keti, but it was important that he hear this. It was perhaps not surprising that former Geronimo crew would look to the Security Chief for leadership as their former CO, of course. But Jane would have no breaking with the chain of command, especially on the bridge. The breach of protocol by Keti, completely bypassing her by asking permission from the CoS to send a science team, and then taking it upon himself to decide who was on the team, was serious enough and he seemed to have completely either missed or ignored her earlier warning to address the chair. Jane’s tolerance for breaches of protocol like this was very low. If this happened again, there would be action.

“I assume iI have made myself understood and this will not happen again.” She said neutrally.

"Thank you." The Captain moved around the desk to indicate she was done and they should get back to the situation.

Sothrick stood at the ready as Keti filed in beside him. As the superior officer he assumed whatever the error was he would get the brunt of it and he was ready to except it.

As she began he understood where the Captain irritation was. He, in some ways, dealt with the same when he took over the Geronimo.

He nodded as she finished. His first instinct was to take the blame for Keti and then apologize for letting the infraction happen. Neither was not a good response. He did not want to make Keti's honest mistake greater or undermine her by adding anything more.

Really his only reply and the only reply Keti should have too was,...

"Aye Captain."

He said then seeing that she was dismissive he turned, sharply to take his leave.

The interaction, while not pleasant, did give Sothrick a bit more of a better understanding of his new Captain. It gave him a little more respect for her. He knew of her illustrious career and even though he was eager to get back to being a Captain himself he was appreciative to have the opportunity to learn from another experienced Captain.

Knowing that the Captain was correct in most things, it just brought some inner conflict. He had to stop channeling any useful information through Sothrick, and just giving it to her strait. There might be some consequences, but there definitely will be if he didn't. It was creating an external conflict that had no room on the Bridge,  he also didn't recall sending anyone anywhere without asking her first.

It suddenly occurred to him that he definitely said it wrong, he was talking to the Commander then to the Captain. There was no way for anyone to know it happened that way because he didn't say Captain, if he were to hear the conversation he would have came to the same conclusion. Even though most in Star Fleet didn't understand Bajorans, they did provide brilliant leaders. Before he knew it Keti was standing alone, and had no opportunity to say a word.

Sothrick stepped in before his Captain looking to create a more friendly environment he stopped at the replicator

"Glass pitcher of ice water with four empty glasses." He demanded and as the request sparkled to reality he picked up the Large glass pitcher and placed it in the middle of the table in front of the couch and then followed suite with the glasses.

Then he moved to stand just off the side of the couch and quarter of the Captains desk. This would allow the Captain to of course sit at her desk and give the Ferengi Guest the option to sit at the couch or at the desk and allow Said to stand on the other corner of the room and couch by the entrance.

This would effectively give Sothrick the ability to get between his Captain and the guest if he should become hostile. It also allowed Said to do the same if she was to remain. He could see the logic in the Captain excusing Said but hopefully she would be allowed to stay for the Captains safety.

The Ferengi Captain was brought in and took a seat. He looked shifty. "Captain Fields, I am Daimon Pye. I am grateful of course for your rescuing us from the vicious and unprovoked attack on our ship. The destruction of our ship was unfortunate. As if it wasn't bad enough when we were caught up that anomaly..."

Jane listened with folded arms. She raised an eyebrow at the Ferengi captain and exchanged looks with Sothrick.

So this is how it is going to be...

"Hmm, we detected no anomaly. Except your vessel that is." She sat behind her desk and leaned forward over it.

"Tell me how you came to be in the system and just how your vessel got into trouble."

Sothrick took up his position while making sure Nira stood closer and in between the Guest and the door.

The large Vulcan not only listened but watched the Ferengi Captain as he began. Ferengi minds were not able to be so easily read even with Sothrick's enhanced skills but he had years of reading humanoids especially when they were in their most stressful situations.

However, it did not take a Psychological Profiler, to know that the Ferengi already started his conversation with a lie.

He gave a look towards the Captain, giving her a hint that she understood as well that their guest was going to be aloof.

He of course let the Captain question the Ferengi while he stood quietly. Watching. Analyzing.

== To be clear Sothrick was / is watching every move tick or such and skilled and know a lie. Usually such requires someone to be watched for a while before noticing the particular movements that one makes when they specifically lie along with the usual tells people have when lying. Since they know that Pye has told a lie and Sothrick will make a conscience mental note of any small action he makes. Does he, wring his hands, lick his lips, look up at the light etc, (for example) when he spoke of the anomaly? ==

== I apologize but I will be slightly hijacking Nira here ==

After a few seconds of interviewing the Daemon Nira's badge broke out for all to hear in the room.

[Wade to Commander Said, Commander the Nausicaans have attacked cargo bay personnel and have moved out of cargo bay. They may have weapons!] Her voice was obviously excited in a worried way.

Nira was quick to answer "Lock down cargo bay and close down all turbolifts Get two more security and start tracking them down I will coordinate and see if we can't sandwich them in. Said Out"

Said gave a look towards Sothrick and then tapped her badge again. "Transporter room we have intruders, the Nausicaans have left the Cargo bay. Can you track them and transport them to the brig?" She began.

Sothrick spoke up "Commander see to this. Go get the Nausicaans back in control they will likely try to attack any Ferengi so get them rounded up quickly. Seal us off and send a security to post outside this door and the Bridge. Also send two security to Sickbay." He ordered.

He with a quick glance to the Captain tapped his combadge. "Sothrick to the Bridge, Commander Ameen, the Nausicaans that were beamed aboard have left and are on the loose from Cargo bay. I have a security guard posting outside of the Bridge I would suggest sealing yourself in. The Captain, the Daemon and I are safe in the Ready room Commander Said and the rest of my team is tracking down our guest." He added

This information would help their interrogation as news of the Nausicaan running loose on board may make the Daemon more talkative.

[Understood Commander. Keep me updated please.] Ameen replied, then he was heard increasing the ship's readiness level. [General Quarters Three. Intruder alert.]

After dropping off the Ferengi captain, Nira spent a long time feeling pensive as she slumped outside the ready room. She sighed. Her post was disappointing so far. Most of Titania's current Security forces aren't responsive much. The feeling of uselessness was still pervasive in Nira and she dropped her head as she slumped, looking toward Sothrick.

Suddenly, she got the alert from Crewman Wade. [Wade to Commander Said, Commander the Nausicaans have attacked cargo bay personnel and have moved out of cargo bay. They may have weapons!] Her voice was obviously excited in a worried way.

Nira was quick to answer. "Lock down cargo bay and close down all turbolifts! Get two more security and start tracking them down! I will coordinate and see if we can't sandwich them in. Said Out."

Nira gave a look towards Sothrick and then tapped her badge again. "Transporter room we have intruders, the Nausicaans have left the Cargo bay. Can you track them and transport them to the brig?" She began.

"On my way!"

[Nira to Security Personnel! Firstly, to the Titania security officers long been here, I ABSOLUTELY NEED YOU NOW!!! You've been slow to respond before, but I! NEED! YOU! NOW! I need two officers in Sickbay and officers at every entry throughout the bridge! NOW!]

Her condemning sharpness was indicative with how displeased she was with most of the other security officers. She was disappointed in them enough to respond thus.

Nira then called on the Computer. [Computer, locate any Nausicaans you can find!]

Commander Sothrick's comm rang with the sound of a very familiar voice.

[Chief Engineer to Commander Sothrick. Perhaps rather than trying to find the Nausicaan you offer it a challenge to single combat. I cannot imagine it would pass up the chance if a clever Security officer was to make it some kind of offer as to what it could receive should it win; not that I think it would; Tourock. Just a suggestion, Keir out]

Tourock would hear a familiar lilt in his former FO's words and knew that s/he was only slightly teasing him.

[Yes Commander] Came several times and then one more added

[Wade to Commander Said, Commander I am heading towards bridge but does anyone have an idea where they maybe heading or looking for?]

Sothrick then received Kier suggestion. [Chief Engineer to Commander Sothrick. Perhaps rather than trying to find the Nausicaan you offer it a challenge to single combat. Sothrick rasied a brow. An interesting and even entertaining idea but his place at the moment was by the Captains side.

He simply responded "Perhaps Commander. We can call that plan 'B' if Commander Said can not gather them all up."

He was going to hold his tongue and of course allow the Captain to govern her interrogation but Sothrick figured hearing all this may help 'jar' the Daimons memory a bit.

"Perhaps good Daimon you could give an idea why the Nausicaans are so interested in your ship and by extension, you?"

Sothrick was glad that the First Officer sounded general quarters and the intruder alert

As Nira left the large vulcan moved from the other side of the room to be closer to the door and still in position between the Daimon and the Captain and still waiting for Daimon Pye to answer his or the Captains questions

The information came through that the intruder alert had been dealt with and the Nausicaans were now under guard in the brig. Said had been injured and was being treated in sickbay, though the injuries were not life threatening.

Jane was aghast to hear the Nausicaans had attacked crew and Said was injured. The situation seemed under control for now, but there would be questions over how they got out of the cargo bay.

The Ferengi was being cute. But it would helpful if they could find some evidence to disprove what he was saying.

"Sothrick, I will leave you to continue with our guest. Excuse me a moment while I attend to issues on the bridge."

Jane exited on. to the bridge to find out what was happening with the Nausicaans and the wreckage of the Ferengi ship.

Daimon Pye shifted nervously in the seat.

"I don't know why those Nausicaans would attack us. Nausicaans are very unpredictable, you know... Perhaps it was a case of mistaken identity?"

He grinned.

"Did the Nausicaans survive?" He then asked innocently. "Or was their ship destroyed?"

Sothrick was agitated but held it inward at the news that one of his officer was injured especially his next in charge over their Security.

Sothrick nodded as the Captain excused herself. He was a bit surprised that she was heading back to the bridge but apparently the Ferengi was frustrating the Captain as Ferengi tended to agitate humans easily.

As she stepped out Sothrick moved to stand more in front of the Daimon.

"I don't know why those Nausicaans would attack us. Nausicaans are very unpredictable, you know... Perhaps it was a case of mistaken identity?"

He grinned.

"Did the Nausicaans survive?" He then asked innocently. "Or was their ship destroyed?"

Sothrick's brow raised slightly.

"As you no doubt heard they not only survived but are aboard. I believe their Captain has asked to meet with you perhaps I will allow you two to use the Captains ready room to speak more in private." He added as he watched how the Daimon reacted.

"Then we can figure where to get you back to. Would that sound like an agreeable plan for you, sir?" He added to the, threat.

"Interesting a moment ago you had stated it must have been mistaken identity," Sothrick started as his gray eyes turned a dark blue watching every nuance of the Daimon.

"Hmmm, there is no profit in such action. Don't Ferengi and Nausicaans have an ope trade relationship?" Sothrick answered but started again not allowing the Daimon to answer.

"Perhaps we should bring the Nausicaan Captain here to work out any 'misunderstandings'. I would consider it my duty and honor to facilitate a peaceful resolution. Ill jave security bring him up here." He began and then moved to tap his badge.

"No, don't do that!"

Daimon Pye seemed to consider his options for a moment. He rubbed his chin.

"I may have left some details out... We had a deal with the Nausicaans it is true. But the attack was totally over the top and unprovoked! We bought something from them and it turned out not to work properly. So naturally, I refused to pay. Profit is everything! The Nausicaans were angry... you know what they are like. But Rule of Acquisition 23: Nothing is more important than your health... except for your money."

He continued.

"These Nausicaans are dangerous criminals - why, you have found out yourself what kind of individuals we're dealing with. They have destroyed my ship and I demand compensation, seizure of assets of the Nausicaans including their ship!"

Sothrick nodded in the expected turn of the Daimon's attitude.

"Interesting," The COS added as Pye

"Well if the item did not work and you had not paid for it yet, why not just give it back and call the deal a wash?"

Asked Sothrick still not fully believing the story was the full truth as he doubted the Nausicaans would have jut given the item with out some sort of payment.

"As far as your compensation, I would say that since you did not pay you would be even. More likely if anything you would awe since their ship was damaged in trying to acquire their deserved payment." He returned.

He then took a step closer to the door and tapped his badge. "Sothrick, to Ensign Wade, please join me in the Captain's Ready Room. Sothrick out." he stated.

"Daimon Pye, once my crewman arrives, I will allow you to relax here while I speak with the Captain and see if we can't work out a compromise for you and the Nausicaans." He added.

It did not take long before the Ensign arrived confused as she was. "Sir" she simply stated as she stepped in.

"Ensign, remain here and make sure the Daimon is comfortable while I go speak with the Captain. Has the other issue been resolved?" He asked In which the young female nodded quickly.

"Yes sir and Commander Said is in the medical bay but should be fine." she reported.

"Good, I will return shortly" He gave, then taking advantage of the fact that the two have worked together for a long while he give her a slight look and nod that conveys to the ensign that the Ferengi is not to leave the room.

Not a hard thing for her to follow as she did not really trust the Ferengi or the Nausicaans.
