Commander Shanth
Captain Allen

Remember during your time at Academy people have responsibilities such as school, jobs, and family, as well as maintaining our site. There are times when we may have to wait longer than we’d like for a reply to a post or a question. Patience and treating each other with respect and dignity are two things that are absolutely required of all members.

On the flip side, the Constitution states that players need to post at least twice a week.  If you find you are unable to keep up due to something coming up in real life responsibilities or you’re just going to be on holiday, please let one of the Admins know.  You can be granted a leave of absence for the length of time you think you’ll be away.  If you don’t let us know and you suddenly disappear, this could end up with you being considered AWOL and eventually removed from the active cadet roster.

Now… with all of that said, let’s get to your character’s bio!

Please begin by posting your bio using the template below. Once posted, your bio will be reviewed by an Evaluations representative. They will post comments for you and suggest any adjustments your bio might require.  Once they approve your bio, you will be assigned an instructor and your adventure will begin!

Federation Space is a written RPG. With that said, we ask that you try to pay attention to spelling and grammar in your posts.  Posts properly formatted are easier and more enjoyable for everyone to read. I strongly recommend you run your bio and any posts you make through a spell check before posting them.

Next are a few resources that can help you as you write your bio:

Be sure to check out playable races.

Our character development page is a great resource to help you fill out your bio form.

Along with character development is information about the Star Fleet Academy Curriculum, including Majors and Minors.

One last thing, please take time to read and understand our site’s canon page.  This will help you understand what 'Trek' related information is included on our site.

Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask!  And as always - have fun!

Just like his sister, Leo hasn't spoken to or even heard from his Mother since 6 months prior to entering the academy so aside from being on Earth, Leo has no idea or suggestion as to where she may be or what his mother currently does to fill her days.
A rather heated disagreement happened between Leo's parents when he was in his early teens, 11 or 12 years old and it caused the beginnings of a frosty rift between them. To this day, Leo does not know what happened or what was said to cause such interpersonal hostilities and doesn't pry on the odd occasion that he speaks to his father. The growing separation between Jason and Molly was evident through the following years and as much as it did not involve Leo and his sister, they were affected by it just as much, even subconsciously choosing sides and spending more time with their favoured parent.
Pets: No pets.
Best Friend: Luke Robinson.
Luke and Leo essentially grew up together from around age 6 often being mistaken for brothers from the sheer amount of time they spent together. In the year before entering the Academy, Leo and Luke didn't drift apart as such, but life got in the way, Leo trying to study and follow in his family's footsteps and Luke finding a girlfriend and working hard in his work as a research scientist.
Personal History:
Leo Alden was born on August 11, 2400, in London, England, to Molly and Jason Alden. His childhood was shaped by a mix of curiosity, discipline, and an undercurrent of familial tension. His father, Jason, was a Starfleet Security Officer, whose tales of interstellar duty inspired Leo’s early admiration for Starfleet. His mother, Molly, was a civil engineer, rooted in Earth’s practicalities, encouraging hands-on learning and problem-solving. Leo spent countless evenings as a young child with his father, who attempted to play chess, which lessons in strategy and patience deeply influenced him as well as the bedtime stories his father would spin from recollections of his own duty and that of famous StarFleet Officers scattered throughout history and building model starships with his mother, fostering an early interest in teamwork, precision and a hands on approach to life. At age six, Leo met Luke Robinson, a spirited and inventive boy who would become his closest friend. The two spent countless hours exploring London’s parks, inventing elaborate games, and dreaming about the stars, imagining themselves on daring adventures in space.

Despite these happy moments, Leo’s early life was not without challenges. At age nine, he developed a severe case of bronchitis. The illness left him bedridden for weeks and with a lingering sensitivity to cold and damp conditions for a few years afterward. This experience ignited a personal commitment to physical fitness and resilience, traits that would later define him. Around the same time, the first cracks in his family’s stability began to show. A heated argument between Jason and Molly when Leo was 11 marked the beginning of a growing rift. While his parents never shared the root cause of their discord, the tension at home was palpable. Leo instinctively sided with his father, spending more time discussing Starfleet and joining Jason on runs through the city, while his sister, Victoria, grew closer to their mother. This divide left Leo yearning for the unity his family once had, a longing that quietly motivated his desire for the camaraderie and structure of Starfleet.

By his early teens, Leo had begun focusing intensely on preparing for a future in Starfleet, specifically as a Security Officer like his father. He admired the discipline, bravery, and protective nature of the role, viewing it as a way to channel his determination and need for purpose. At 13, during one of their neighborhood adventures, Leo and Luke came across an abandoned construction site. While exploring, Leo took a bad fall, spraining his wrist. Though the injury was minor, the incident served as a stark reminder of the importance of situational awareness, a lesson that resonated deeply with Leo as he continued to study Starfleet protocols and safety measures.

At 15, as his parents’ marriage neared its breaking point, Leo buried himself in his studies and physical training, often visiting phaser ranges with his father and running daily to maintain his fitness. However, the stress of preparing for Starfleet Academy, combined with the strain at home, led to bouts of insomnia during his late teens. These sleepless nights often saw him confiding in Luke, whose steady friendship remained a source of strength. Though their paths began to diverge as Luke pursued a future in research science, their bond endured, with Luke offering constant encouragement and helping Leo push through moments of self-doubt.

Just after he turned 17, Leo passed the Starfleet Academy entrance exams with distinction, earning high marks in physical aptitude and security protocols. Despite this achievement, his departure was bittersweet. Six months before leaving for the Academy, Leo had a final falling out with Victoria, who accused him of blindly idolizing their father. Shortly after, his mother ceased contact entirely, leaving Leo feeling a mixture of anger, sadness, and guilt as he stepped into the next phase of his life. These experiences left him determined to succeed, not only for himself but to prove to his family—and himself—that he could rise above the fractures that had defined his early years.

Leo entered Starfleet Academy at the age of 18 with a mix of determination and trepidation. The structured environment and rigorous training felt like a perfect fit for someone with his drive and discipline. Specializing in Security, Leo quickly distinguished himself through his physical fitness, attention to detail, and methodical approach to problem-solving. However, his first year wasn’t without its challenges. Adjusting to life at the Academy was demanding, and the combination of physical drills, academic pressures, and homesickness took a toll. During his first semester, Leo experienced a resurgence of stress-induced insomnia. The sleepless nights left him drained, and for a brief period, he struggled to keep pace with his peers.

In his second year, Leo faced a particularly trying moment when a malfunction during phaser training caused a minor burn on his left hand. While the injury was superficial, it deeply affected him. Leo chose to leave the scar unhealed, having it repaired a little over a year later, he viewed it as a constant reminder to always double-check equipment and take responsibility for safety measures. This experience also brought him closer to one of his instructors, Commander Elisa Trent, a veteran Security Officer known for her no-nonsense demeanor but deep care for her students. After noticing Leo’s frustration during training, she pulled him aside for a private session. Over several hours, Commander Trent walked him through a meticulous equipment inspection and emphasized the importance of learning from mistakes rather than dwelling on them. Her mentorship not only improved his technical skills but also helped Leo develop a healthier perspective on failure.

Academically, Leo excelled in courses such as Close-Quarters Combat, Starship Security Protocols, and Threat Analysis, consistently ranking among the top of his class. However, one of his most humbling experiences came during a leadership simulation in his second year. Tasked with leading a security response team during a simulated station lockdown, Leo struggled with delegation, choosing instead to micromanage the scenario. This approach led to simulated casualties and a failing grade for the exercise. The incident was another turning point for him; Commander Trent later sat him down to dissect the event, encouraging Leo to trust his team and understand the value of collective effort. From then on, he worked hard to balance his perfectionism with collaboration, a lesson that served him well in future simulations and live exercises.

During his third year, Leo reconnected with Luke Robinson in a way that rekindled their childhood bond. Though they had grown distant due to their respective paths, Luke reached out during a rare trip to San Francisco for a science symposium. Over dinner, Luke shared his excitement about a new research project and praised Leo for pursuing a career in Security, emphasizing how important it was to have someone protecting those on the front lines of exploration. Their conversation reminded Leo of the importance of maintaining his connections and gave him a renewed sense of purpose. Luke’s unwavering belief in him was a moment of clarity that helped Leo push through the self-doubt that lingered from his fractured family relationships.

Also, during his third year at the Academy, Leo found himself needing to select a subject for his two minor qualifications. Instinctively, Leo opted for his first Minor from the Tactical Command course set as a Weapons Systems Officer believing that as a last resort, he could aid in the defence and safe keeping of Federation citizens wherever he may find himself. Initially unsure of what path to take for his second Minor, he sought advice from Commander Trent, who emphasised the value of adaptability and cultural understanding in Starfleet operations. After some reflection, Leo chose languages, reasoning that a strong grasp of linguistic nuances could prove invaluable in his future duties as a Security Officer.

This decision turned out to be a rewarding challenge. Leo dedicated himself to studying key Federation and non-Federation languages, including Vulcan, Klingon and Ferengi. While not naturally gifted in this area, his determination and work ethic paid off and he began to excel in understanding cultural contexts behind linguistic expressions and recognizing the importance of diplomacy in security operations.

This minor not only broadened Leo's skill set but also allowed him to connect with cadets from diverse cultural backgrounds, enriching his Academy experience. By his fourth year, he had developed a functional proficiency in several languages, earning commendation from his language instructors and laying the groundwork for his future in Starfleet.

Leo’s fourth year at the Academy was his most rewarding. By then, he had built a reputation as a reliable and steadfast cadet, often sought out by his peers for advice and support. His dedication paid off when he received a distinction for his performance during a high-stakes disaster simulation, where his quick thinking and calm demeanor helped his team navigate a simulated ship-wide crisis. By graduation, Leo had not only honed his skills as a Security Officer but also developed a deeper sense of camaraderie and trust in those around him. He left the Academy with a mix of pride and apprehension, ready to step into the vast unknown of Starfleet service while carrying the advice, lessons and relationships that had shaped him.

After completing his studies at Starfleet Academy, Leo embarked on his Cadet Cruise, a standard rite of passage for all Starfleet cadets transitioning to active duty. Assigned to the USS Peregrine, a mid-sized vessel primarily focused on routine patrol and support missions, Leo's six-month tour proved uneventful, serving as a practical application of the skills he had honed during his Academy years.

During the cruise, Leo rotated through various security assignments, including internal ship patrols, crew training simulations, and monitoring external sensors during border patrols. He adapted quickly to shipboard life, demonstrating his ability to follow protocols, collaborate with crew members, and maintain professionalism in everyday operations.

While the missions lacked any significant danger or high-profile events, Leo valued the experience for its steady rhythm and focus on reinforcing Starfleet's core principles. He took the opportunity to practice his language skills by studying alien scripts encountered during minor diplomatic exchanges, a continuation of his decision to minor in linguistics.

The uneventful nature of the Cadet Cruise might have been mundane for some, but for Leo, it served as a reminder of the often-overlooked, routine work that ensures Starfleet's mission of exploration and peacekeeping runs smoothly. When his tour ended, Leo was formally commissioned as a full Ensign, ready to take on his first real posting.

He feels disappointed in himself for not being able to bridge the gap or understand the root of their issues.

Limited Time with His Best Friend:
As life took him and Luke Robinson in different directions, Leo regrets the gradual drifting apart. He wishes they could have maintained their closeness but understands that their respective ambitions demanded sacrifices.

A Near-Failure at the Academy:
During his second year at Starfleet Academy, Leo struggled with a leadership simulation where his inability to delegate effectively led to simulated casualties. While he learned from this experience, he remains disappointed in himself for letting his perfectionism and need for control get in the way of teamwork.

Missed Opportunities to Explore Childhood Passions:
Leo always had an interest in music and was a talented guitarist as a teenager, but his drive to pursue Starfleet pushed those hobbies aside. Looking back, he sometimes feels disappointed that he didn’t give himself permission to explore a broader range of interests.

Feeling Overshadowed by His Father’s Legacy:
While Leo admires his father, he can’t help but feel that he’s living in his shadow. He sometimes worries that people see him as merely "Jason Alden’s son" rather than as his own person, leading to moments of self-doubt.

Illnesses:
Childhood Respiratory Illness:
Leo developed a case of severe bronchitis at age 9. It left him bedridden for a couple of weeks and with a lingering sensitivity to cold or damp conditions for a few years afterward. This experience made him appreciate the importance of physical fitness and led to his later commitment to staying healthy and active.

Stress-Induced Insomnia:
In his late teens, as Leo prepared for Starfleet Academy entrance exams, the mounting pressure led to bouts of insomnia. Though not a physical illness, the mental toll affected his focus and stamina. It was a lesson in balancing ambition with self-care, something he still struggles with from time to time.

Minor Phaser Training Accident:
During an early Academy training session, Leo suffered a minor burn to his left hand due to a phaser misfire caused by equipment malfunction. While the injury wasn’t severe, it left a faint scar that Leo refused to have healed, which served as a personal reminder to always double-check equipment. He later had the scar removed by the doctors after about 18 months.

Strengths:
Analytical thinker, physically disciplined, excellent under pressure, loyal to a fault.
Weaknesses:
Struggles with vulnerability, overly critical of himself and others, can come off as unapproachable.
Fears:
Failing to live up to his father’s and family’s legacy.
Losing close friends or comrades, especially during missions or as a result of his actions.
Prejudices:
Skeptical of people who come from privileged backgrounds, as he associates them with entitlement.
Mildly distrustful of non-Starfleet authority figures, feeling they lack the discipline he values.

Questions
Most Painful Experience:
The most painful experience in Leo’s life was the collapse of his family. The strained relationship between his parents, particularly the moment when their marriage started unraveling, left a profound emotional scar on him. Leo was only 11 or 12 years old when the argument between his parents escalated into a rift that was never fully explained to him. This growing distance between his parents, compounded by his own feelings of helplessness and confusion, created a deep emotional wound that never truly healed. The eventual divorce, followed by his estrangement from both his mother and sister, further amplified his pain. The sense of abandonment he felt from them, particularly after leaving for Starfleet Academy, weighed heavily on him, leaving unresolved feelings of guilt, anger, and sadness. This experience also caused Leo to struggle with vulnerability, a trait that still affects him today.

Best Time:
The best time in Leo's life was his childhood spent with his best friend, Luke Robinson. Their friendship, formed at the age of six, was a constant source of joy and adventure. They were inseparable, often playing in London's parks, inventing games, and dreaming of interstellar adventures. These carefree years provided Leo with a sense of belonging and camaraderie, something he longed for amidst the growing tension in his family. The innocence and purity of their shared childhood dreams gave Leo a sense of stability and happiness that he would later find difficult to replicate. Even though their paths diverged as they grew older, the bond they shared during this time remains one of Leo's fondest memories, and he often reflects on those moments of pure, unencumbered joy.

Most Crucial Experience:
The most crucial experience in Leo's life occurred when he first decided to follow in his father's footsteps and pursue a career in Starfleet. At 13, Leo faced a critical turning point during an exploration with Luke. They ventured into an abandoned construction site, where Leo sustained a minor injury after falling. The experience taught him the importance of situational awareness and responsibility, shaping his mindset as he prepared for his future in Starfleet. However, it was the tension in his home, particularly the emotional distance from his parents, that solidified his determination to pursue Starfleet as a way to create the structure and camaraderie he longed for. This moment crystallized his desire to find a place in Starfleet where he could belong, make a difference, and prove to himself that he was capable of living up to expectations. It’s this desire for self-fulfillment, as well as the need to prove himself to a fractured family, that has fueled his ambition ever since.

Role Model:
Lt. Jason Alden:
Leo's father, Jason Alden, is the figure who first ignited his desire to pursue a career in Starfleet. As a Security Officer aboard the USS Divergent, Jason embodies the qualities that Leo admires: discipline, loyalty, and a strong sense of duty. Jason's role as a protector, both of the Federation and of his crew, deeply influenced Leo’s decision to follow in his father’s footsteps. Growing up, Leo was fascinated by the stories his father would share about his missions and the importance of security in maintaining peace within Starfleet. Jason was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it was always to teach, guide, or offer wisdom. His unflinching dedication to Starfleet’s values left a lasting impression on Leo, instilling in him a sense of duty that would define his own career. Jason also modeled resilience, showing Leo how to weather personal storms and remain focused on the bigger picture. Despite their strained relationship after the divorce, Leo still holds his father in the highest regard, viewing him as the ideal figure of strength, professionalism, and honor in Starfleet.

Commander Elisa Trent:
Commander Trent, one of Leo’s most impactful mentors during his time at the Academy, became a role model not only for her exceptional skills as a Security Officer but for her pragmatic approach to leadership and mentorship. Known for her no-nonsense attitude and a reputation for demanding excellence, Trent pushed Leo to refine his technical abilities and improve his self-discipline. However, it was her personal investment in her cadets' development that set her apart. After Leo's burn injury during phaser training, Commander Trent took him under her wing, using the incident as a teaching moment. She emphasized the importance of learning from one’s mistakes rather than letting them define you, a lesson that helped Leo evolve both personally and professionally. Her mentorship also taught him the value of humility and collaboration, as she encouraged him to lean on his team and trust their abilities, a trait Leo struggled with due to his perfectionism. Through her guidance, Leo not only honed his tactical skills but developed a deeper understanding of what it truly means to be a leader—not just in terms of knowledge, but in supporting and trusting others. To this day, Leo admires Trent for her unwavering professionalism, her commitment to her team, and her ability to balance tough love with genuine care for those she mentored.

These two figures, though vastly different in their approaches, helped shape Leo into the officer he aspires to be, blending the discipline and honor instilled by his father with the tactical brilliance and leadership lessons imparted by Commander Trent.

==Good afternoon, I am Commander Carrs and I will be assisting you with the first stage of the Academy process; the development of your character bio.

Overall, this is an excellent bio! I do, however, need you to change some dates for me. Since the finale of Picard Season 3 and a site-wide referendum on continuing our original alternate universe or merging with prime canon, the site has since "stepped back" twenty years. That makes the current year 2404 (soon to be 05) rather than 2424/5. I understand the wiki has conflicting information on this, and we're working on getting it all correct - as a site of volunteers, however, this isn't necessarily the fastest process.

Please re-post your bio with changes to the respective dates, plus whatever changes that might require for your character, and we can continue!==

== Good Evening Commander Carrs. Please find the adjusted bio below. The birth date luckily was the only date needed to be corrected but I have also made him 1 year younger as after re-reading it fully, Leo's 4 year education would have taken him to 22 and his 6 month cruise as written too 22 1/2, waiting 1 1/2 years after his cruise for a posting didn't sit well with me for some reason. I hope this is ok but please let me know if otherwise. ==

== Hey there Cadet, I’m Lieutenant Beka Olsen and I’m going to be your instructor for your time here at the Academy. Let me start off with welcoming you to Federation Space. As you'll discover,  Federation Space is a great game and community, and we hope that you have fun here with us. If you ever have any questions and need to contact me, please feel free to PM me on the forum. Additionally, feel free to stretch your writing legs over at the Academy Lounge

As you may have already discovered, good place to read for a refresher before we get started is How to Play a Security Officer. It will help give you a good idea of what your department does.

Now, on with our lessons! Today we’re going to cover formatting basics. Because Federation Space is made up of players from all over the world, we have come up with a standardized set of formatting rules. By using this one style, it makes it easier for everyone to follow and understand each other’s posts.

The first thing to keep in mind is that we post in third person, past tense.

An example of this would be: Beka was excited to go skiing; she was so excited, she fell off her seat!
NOT this: I am excited to go skiing; I’m so excited, that I fall off my seat!

The next thing to know is that we use double spacing between paragraphs and between our character’s spoken lines. This just means when you write a spoken line with quotation marks “ ”, you would leave a space to indicate a break in the paragraph. When in doubt, double space!

For thoughts and extra emphasis, we also use a certain style. All the character’s thoughts need to be written in italics. Character thoughts are also one of the few times that writing in the First Person is acceptable. To write in italics, just press the I button and begin typing. Your text should show up in italics. You can also use the keyboard short cut ctrl I (for PC) or Command I (Mac) to get italics. When you are finished with your thought simply hit the I button (or keyboard shortcut) again to end the italics. Please note that if you post on a phone or tablet you might be required to use the bb code tag. The BB Code for italics is [ I ] Text [ / I ] (without the spaces).

Your character’s thought will then become: I can’t wait until I get to go skiing again.

For extra emphasis in writing -- to make something really stand out -- we use bold text. The procedure is the same as italics, just press the B button instead of the I. The keyboard short cut is also the same, only substitute b for I. Additionally the BB Code for phone users is the same as it was for italics only with a “b” rather than an I.

You will then get: Beka absolutely loved alpine skiing.

It is rare that a player's character has the ability to communicate telepathically. In general telepathy is closely monitored by Commanding Officers to make sure it is not being abused and that players are not "super-simming" their character. With that said, there are some telepathic races on Fedspace and on occasion multiple telepaths will speak to each other through this unique skill. Telepathic communication looks like this:

~Hello, I am now speaking directly into your mind!~

If your character is not telepathic then in general you do not need to worry about this technique but should be aware it exists in case you see crewmembers on your ship using it.

When we receive verbal communications through a comm device, such as your comm badge, from another crew member or the computer, we need to drop the quotations “ ” from it and instead use brackets [ ].

So if I were sending you a comm message, it would look something like this: [Beka here. Please report to the Holodeck for your final examination.]

If you are the one speaking to somebody through a comm device, you would still use the quotations “ ”.
Finally we’ll talk about our Out Of Character posting, or OOC, like I’m doing now. This is text surrounded by == ==. You use OOC when you want to talk to another player and not write it as part of the storyline. The places you won’t need to do this are in general discussion areas such as your ship’s OOC section and Hailing Frequencies.

We also ask that you run your posts through a word processor, like Word, to spell check it before you post. You don’t need to be a perfect speller or grammar whiz, but doing this step makes it easier for everyone to understand posts.

A good way to get the feel of how all these formatting rules work and to get a feel of the site in general is to browse around the forums. Take a look at the active ship areas and see how the players are using the elements listed above.

Now, let’s get to some posting. Please include as many of the above elements into your posting. Have fun!==

Beka had forgotten how busy the Academy was during this time of year with instructors attempting to get the junior cadets on track with their studies while also trying to ensure that the more senior cadets were prepared for their upcoming final exams. And that didn't even account for the chaos the start of a new academic year always seemed to bring to personal lives, though Beka was mostly immune from such drama. That was also why she had volunteered to take on more final exams than necessarily required of her, to allow her coworkers to have a slightly lighter load.

The blonde half Ktarian was sitting at her deak, carefully writing her evaluation for the final exam she had proctored earlier that morning. A steaming cup of cider sat just at her elbow, ready to provide a distraction when she reached a point of contention. Unfortunately, the exam had not gone as desired for the cadet, unless they wanted to have to retake it.

[Ten minute warning. Exam scheduled for Cadet Alden in Holodeck 3 at 1200.]

The green eyed lieutenant paused, debating whether she could finish the evaluation within the remaining time and not be late for the next exam. Given the amount of issues in the previous exam, she didn't think that was likely so with a sigh, she shelved her evaluation and gathered her PADD for the next examination.

Maybe it won't be as bad after giving it some time to breathe... no, it was a pretty terrible exam.

It was a short walk from her office to the holodeck, and a glance at her chronometer showed five minutes before the cadet was expected to arrive. With a satisfied nod, she began selecting the program for today's testing, hoping that this cadet did better than the last.

Early as usual, but his punctuality did not help ease his mind at this moment, he was feeling a mix of eagerness and anxiousness. Although he would be the first to tell anyone that this was not a bad mix, as it kept you on your toes in any situation, it wasn't helping him now as he paced back and forth whilst waiting for his evaluator outside Holodeck 3.

I know the instructors are busy, but i've never beaten one to a class or test before. Maybe this is a part of my test.

Leo’s thoughts raced through his mind as he ran through scenarios in his head, possible ideas for what his final exam would hold, but this too, failed to quiet his mind. The slender male finally come to a stop just off centre of the Holodeck’s doorway and closed his eyes for a moment, run his fingers through his rather short ginger hair and let out a breath. As he lowered his arm, he opened his eyes and stared at his left hand and a memory flashed past his eyes momentarily.

Do not forgot to double check everything and do not get frustrated if it starts to go sideways.

Leo’s attention snapped back to reality as he began to hear footsteps in the quiet hallway so he lowered his arm to his side and stood at ease. He didn't recognise the instructor approaching him but her uniform made it obvious that she was, and unknowing if this instructor was his evaluator, he collected his posture and spoke.

“Good Afternoon Sir.”

== Apologies for the delay in responding. Typically, the weeks surrounding Christmas and New Years are a little more slower as people are traveling and enjoying time with their families. I hope you had a great holiday! ==

Overall, your post looks very good. You did a very good job of conveying your character's thoughts and feelings. You also utilized the italics and bold correctly! Just be careful about placing your character somewhere someone has already established arriving at as it can devolve into hijacking territory very easily or can cause issues with GMs. In this instance, no harm, no foul.

Now, on to our next lesson!

Our next lesson will concern Plots and GM Input. We have two types of plots here on Federation Space: the main plot and subplots. While the main plot affects the entire ship, a subplot is an underlying story that’s being told within the main plot. While a main plot is directed by our GM, a subplot can be run by any player who has received prior approval by the ship’s CO or FO to run that particular subplot. An example of the difference between the two, is that the main story would be the ship falling under attack, whereas the subplot would be a character having to deal with an on ship pregnancy, or perhaps trying to write the next great holonovel.

Here on Federation Space, our Game Moderators (GMs) help to guide our ships’ missions along. Each ship has a mission, of which only the GMs of a ship know. This helps to add a bit of suspense and mystery to the game because if you knew what was going happen it wouldn’t be a very fun game.

Your job is to write what your character sees, and what their reaction is. The GM fills in any unknowns about the plot. GMs give input on things that have significance to the direction of the mission. This is why we need to keep our posts open ended on anything that might affect the mission’s outcome. By that I mean, anything that might affect the mission’s direction or outcome, have it so your character performs the action, but leave the outcome unknown. An example of this would be if you were running a diagnostic scan: while you can perform the scan, you need to leave the result open ended for the GM to fill in. While such a scan might seem trivial to you, you don’t know what the GM has planned for what it is you’re scanning.

When you need GM input on something, you just put the following at the end of your post:

== GM Input, please. ==

You can also make it more specific request, such as:

== GM Input – Result of the diagnostic, please. ==

To get a good feel of what GM input is, look around at the active ships and see how they use it.

I would like to point out that at the top of our forums there is a tab that says "view new content". This tab is a quick and handy way to see who has posted since your previous visit to Fed-Space!

Alright, time for more writing! From now on I will be acting as a GM for you. In your next post, please find a way to ask for GM input. If you need any help, or would like some more clarification, don’t hesitate to ask! I would like you to practice using bold and italics in this post once more. ==

It wasn't that Beka hadn't noticed the young man pacing a few steps away from the holodeck panel when she arrived and it wasn't that her brain hadn't made the assessment that this was her impending exam participant. However, she'd been so focused on keying in the appropriate program and ensuring that it matched what was to be proctored that she merely pushed the fact to the side until the young man spoke up.

Her sharp green eyes came up to regard the young man, who had ceased his pacing in favor of standing at ease. There was still a restless quality to the young man that Beka saw regularly but she'd prefer nervous and anxious over overly confident and cocky. There seemed to be a very potent correlation between the cadets initial behavior and their success as her last exam demonstrated clearly.

Had her nerves not been frayed from her previous exam, she might have taken a moment to offer the young man an assurance and some small talk to settle his nerves but truthfully, she just didn't have it in her at the moment.

Instead, she offered him a wry smile. "Cadet, thank you for being so punctual."

Her agile fingers pressed another command on the console and the holodeck doors yawned open to reveal the gray paneling of a corridor under standard lighting. She motioned for Alden to step inside ahead of her.

"If you're ready to begin, you are currently assigned as a security officer aboard the USS Gettysburg. You've been assigned to a standard patrol and are equipped with a standard side arm and tricorder. I will be present but not a part of the scenario. Just remember everything you've learned in the last four years and you will be fine."

For a few moments, the corridor was eerily quiet, even a boot fall at the end of the corridor likely would have rung out clearly, and then, the corridor exploded in a blaring klaxon. [Intruder Alert. Intruder Alert. Deck 15, Section 6. Intruder Alert. Deck 15, Section 6.]

A glance at the nearest deck marking told Alden he was on Deck 15, Section 5...

== Hiya, my holidays were rather mediocre if i'm honest, just more work and less sleep. I hope your festivities were more merry.
I apologise about the previous post, after i re-read it, i realised what you meant about possible Hijacking and i will make sure to be more careful in the future. that being said, here goes nothing. ==

Leo took the Lieutenants cue and stepped through the doors and into a familiar setting. Although not familiar with the Gettysburg, the corridor before him was the same as he would find on many a ship when he finally got assigned to one. He took a moment to check the phaser attached to his right hip and checked its settings, even being on holodeck he made sure it was set to stun and as he replaced it into the holster, a loud robotic voice echoed through the empty hallway.     [Intruder Alert. Intruder Alert. Deck 15, Section 6. Intruder Alert. Deck 15, Section 6.]

Here goes nothing. He thought to himself as he breathed in deeply. Do not screw this up.

His ginger hair flickered in the light as he turned his head left then right, looking for an indication as to where he was. Deck 15, Section 5.

Right. Decks are top to bottom and sections are front to back. He reminded himself as he started to run.

Walking into the corridor with the Lieutenant through the holodeck doors must have had him all kinds of turned around because he realised as he approached the next set of doors, that they indicated that he was heading into Section 4.

Damn! damn, damn. He screamed at himself internally. He turned around and started running in the correct direction down the long, slightly curved corridor towards Section 6 and as the Cadet ran, he spoke aloud.

"Computer, can you identify the nature of the intruder. How Many? What Species? Any Weaponry?"

== GM Input. - What are the computers answers to Leo's questions please.
How many intruders, what species(if known) and do they have any weapons on them? ==

== Excellent post! Also, good use of italics and bold. Now on to our next lesson!

Lesson three: NRCs, character usage, and site navigation:

Non-rated characters, or NRCs, are characters used by players as well as GMs to help fill crew gaps in ships. Depending on when you played on the site previously, these were likely known as NPCs at that time. Starships usually have large crews and since we don’t have enough players to fill all those roles, we use NRCs.

We have two types of NRCs: Independent and Temporary.

Independent NRCs are like a Player Rated Character (PRC), in that they get played as their own character. These NRCs are registered and you can distinguish them through their character names. You’ll see something along the lines of Ensign Doe {Olsen}, with the PRC character’s last name in brackets at the end. And while these NRCs are similar to PRCs, they are not a second rated character (SRC). They also do not earn points or medals as you would with your PRC. Also, your PRC must be a Lt [JG] or higher and have the approval of your Commanding Officer to create an Independent NRC.

Temporary NRCs on the other hand, can be created by anyone. They are not as developed as Independent NRCs or PRCs and they do not have bios. They are usually created for quick tasks, and are used for times when you need to post with other players on the ship.

To make a Temporary NRC post, all you need to do is place an OOC notation at the top of the post. You’ll probably see several variations, but they typically look like:

==Ensign John Doe, Temp Engineering NRC ==

In the case of both NRCs, you play the character from the NRCs perspective, almost as if you have a second character. You can only play an NRC that is one rank higher than your own. This means that if you’re an Ensign, you can have NRCs that are Midshipmen, Ensigns, or Lieutenant Junior Grades.

Character Hijacking:

The next element we’re going to cover is character usage. Unless you have permission from the player, you cannot post any speech, thoughts or movements for another character (PRC or NRC) that isn’t yours, unless the character has already done so in game. This is called character hijacking and is not permitted on Fed Space. Some players might not mind, but even minor things such as a nod of a head or a shrug of the shoulders can be considered hijacking.

For example, if you wrote in your next post that Maddie Allen suddenly appeared and started dancing the Hokey Pokey, you would have hijacked that character.

Character Movement on Ships:

I’m sure you have noticed a ship has multiple threads on it for various locations that a player can post, such as the bridge, sickbay, and security offices. Often times while on a mission, players travel throughout the ship to accomplish their orders. To help follow the plot when a player is transitioning from one thread to another, they should make a notation at the end their post like this: >> Sickbay >> The arrows and location found at the bottom of a post tells readers where this character will post next.

When the player makes their next post, the player should make a notation at the beginning of their post like this:

<< Bridge << The arrows and location found at the top of a post indicate that is where a player has just come from.

The Fed Space wiki offers a great resource to help you out with your posts. Be sure to spend some time to check it out. The information on the wiki is also ‘Fed Space canon,’ which can sometimes differ from Star Trek canon, so look there first when you’re researching something. Don’t feel limited to only looking at the wiki pages for your department, because the other departments will have information, you’ll find quite useful.

As previously mentioned, Fed Space canon differs slightly from that of Star Trek, mainly because this game happens 40+ years after the Dominion War. Since the Dominion War, there have been many conflicts and wars. It’s been very rocky, but all the history from the start of Year 1 to the last entry on that page have been written and played here on Federation Space. Make sure you spend some time checking out our site history.

Our Academy pages contain a lot of valuable resources for you as well. Be sure to check them out, especially the New Cadet FAQ while you’re there.

To help you become accustomed to organization of our wiki, I have a few questions for you to answer:

1. Who is the Chief of Security for the USS Artemis?
2. What is setting 3 of a Type 2-H phaser pistol?
3. What is general quarters four?

So, in your next post, please use Crewman Moran, an arriving security officer, as your Temporary NRC. Give him feelings and a story -- he's your character for the remainder of this simulation.

Good luck! ==

[Unable to detect characteristics. No unusual weapons detected.]

As Cadet Alden approached the junction where section 5 turned into section 6, he noticed a security crewman standing in the middle of the junction. Crewman Moran was similarly equipped with a phaser in one hand and a tricorder in the other, clearly indecisive about which he should be focusing on.

Both Alden and Moran's communicator came to life at the same time. [Bridge to all patrols. What is going on down there?]

That question had no sooner floated through the air before the sound of metal wrenching from further into section 6 reached their ears.

== Over to you! Remember to use the above format to post for Crewman Moran as well as Alden. Have fun with it! ==

== The Artemis's CoS is Mara Calleja.
Setting 3 on a type 2 Phaser Pistol is Heavy Stun. It is noted that this is strong enough to knock out a person for up to an hour and anything that remains unconscious for more than an hour may encounter some brain or nerve damage. Heavy Stun can also be lethal at point blank.
General Quarters 4 is used in the event of a major boarding party or hi-jacking. All security personnel are placed on active duty and non-essential crew are confined to quarters or possibly told to go to evacuation points. Phasers may be set to kill and Security Officers are paired up to patrol every corridor and some are placed to guard key areas of the ship. Bulkheads may be closed to isolate some areas of the ship and all active crew are armed regardless of department.. ==

== Leo Alden - Cadet Security Officer ==
As Leo Closed the gap on his destination, the computer responded to his questions. [Unable to detect characteristics. No unusual weapons detected.] That's not good, he thought to himself as he came to a stop in the hallway just a few meters from Section 6 next to another crewman. Panting a bit more than he would have liked to show, Leo looked at the young man, at how he was looking between the phaser in one hand and the tricorder in the other, as if he couldn't make his mind up.

"Don't worry about the tricorder, i don't think it ill be much use, the computer couldn't detect anything, so, yeah." Leo panted out to the crewman. "Sorry, i'm new here, what's your name?"

The somewhat flustered man looked at Leo as he put the tricorder away and answered.

"I'm Crewman Moran, Security, What's going on?"

Taking stock of his surroundings and listening out for anyone approaching, Leo's head spun on a swivel. He must be new too, he thought. Right, it's just another exercise, what would i normally do Leo wondered.

[Bridge to all patrols. What is going on down there?]

"I'm Leo. I'm new here. Moran, follow me, setting 2 on your phaser and we'll pepper-pot down the" -

No sooner had he started to take control of the situation, well, control of the flustered crewman at least, an almighty noise, the sound of metal being ripped and twisted echoed throughout the corridor from further within Section 6.

Now feeling a bit put off because what an earth could make that kind of noise, and if it was the sound of something wrenching metal, what could be that strong. Leo put his thoughts aside and looked back to the crewman.

"As i was saying, Phaser setting 2, for now, and we'll pepper-pot down the corridor, and remember to breathe." Leo calmly commanded.

One after the other, the pair began to move down the corridor in a leap frog fashion aiming their phaser down the corridor. Hitting his Comm Badge, Leo finally remembered to answer the bridge's question. "I'm not too sure what's happening, me and Moran are moving into Section 6 now, stand-by for an update."

== Crewman Moran - Temp Security NPC ==

Moran had heard the Intruder Alert and had proceeded accordingly to Deck 15, Section 6 which was lucky for him because he wasn't too far away but it was also unlucky for him. Why me, why me, i'm still new here, why me, Moran thought, his nerves and lack of real life experience starting to get the better of him. He had reached the beginning of section 6 when he came to a stop. He looked between his phaser and a tricorder, and his eyes bounced between the items trying to decide which would serve him better. As his mind spun and ran away with him, a fairly skinny officer was running towards him, panting quite heavily.

"Don't worry about the tricorder, i don't think it ill be much use, the computer couldn't detect anything, so, yeah." The man panted. "Sorry, i'm new here, what's your name?"

Moran knew that this was another security officer, the colour on his uniform told him as much, but now, instead of his eyes bouncing between phaser and tricorder, his eyes flicked between the security orange of the uniform, and the almost identical orange of the mans hair.

"I'm Crewman Moran, Security, What's going on?" he replied as he placed the tricorder onto his waist.

Moran watched as the security officer before him seemed to be looking all around, up and down the corridor, not nervously, but as if he had lost something.

[Bridge to all patrols. What is going on down there?] The pair of communicators said aloud.

"I'm Leo. I'm new here. Moran, follow me, setting 2 on your phaser and we'll pepper-pot down the" -

The man before him seemed to be quite calm, taking charge in fact. Good, this is good, Moran thought as the sentence was cut off by a loud and rather disturbing noise of metal from down the hall. What the Hell is that his own mind screamed at him.

"As i was saying, Phaser setting 2, for now, and we'll pepper-pot down the corridor, and remember to breathe." The officer said to him.

This is good, he can take charge, Moran thought once more, his nerves beginning to set it once again.

As they took turns moving forward down the hallway, moving passed each other as they aimed their phasers down the hall, waiting for something to possibly jump out in front them, he heard Leo speaking, replying to the bridge.

"I'm not too sure what's happening, me and Moran are moving into Section 6 now, stand-by for an update."

== Excellent answers!

You're doing a very good job with characterization, describing environments and reacting to stimuli. As such, I'm going to get a little nit picky going forward so that you come out of the Academy as polished as possible. On your next post, I really want you to focus on polishing your grammar, specifically capitalizing your 'I's, using question marks in your thoughts and separating out your thoughts from the middle of descriptive paragraphs. They easily get lost and I think a character's thoughts are some of the most important writing you can do. You're doing a great job of writing their thoughts and I want to see them showcased.

Let's just try to polish up the grammar on the next round; if you're not using a spellchecking, like in Microsoft Word, I think using one would help with a lot of the little stuff.

Now, moving on the our next lesson!!

The next topic we’ll cover is that of points. These are issued on the first of every month, and the main reason we have this system in place is to allow for the progression of ranks. Once you earn a certain amount of points, you’ll receive a promotion to the next rank. There are a few caps in place because, lets face it, over time without the caps the site would be overrun with Captains and Admirals with nowhere for them to go. To access the monthly points charts, you can click on the Red Alert thread, then Monthly Point Tables. You can also find more information about points, positions, and caps on the Federation Space Constitution page.

Points are awarded by your Commanding Officer (CO) and approved up the chain of command by the Fleet Commander (FC), and Commander in Chief (CinC). Everyone earns participation points every month, depending on how active a player you are, and this can vary between each CO. If you have any questions about how your CO awards points, please go up your chain of command when you are assigned to a vessel. They will gladly let you know. Another way for you to earn points is to hold various site positions, such as DH, FO, CO and so on. Yet another way to earn points is through medals, a list of which and their point values you can find on the medals page in the Academy section of the wiki. Medals are typically awarded to players who go above and beyond what is expected on the site.

One thing I’d like to mention about Federation Space is that everything here is supposed to be fun. While we do have a points system in place, I suggest that you don’t play for the sole reason of collecting points or positions – you will enjoy your time here much more if you write and take part in things for the fun of it, not an attempt to “win”. It’s really about writing, growing your character, and being a part of the great community that makes up Federation Space.

As I mentioned above, there are several ranks you can achieve over time. The abbreviated forms and names are listed below.

Mid – Midshipman
Ens – Ensign
Lt (JG) – Lieutenant (Junior Grade)
Lt – Lieutenant
LCdr – Lieutenant Commander
Cdr – Commander
Capt – Captain
Cmdr – Commodore
RAdm – Rear Admiral
VAdm – Vice Admiral
Adm – Admiral
FAdm – Fleet Admiral

Now, I mentioned Chain of Command. The Chain of Command is the order in which you should go should you require any assistance with an issue or have any questions or concerns in or out of game. If you’re interested in finding out more about these positions, please feel free to read our Constitution.

We’ll start from the first person who you would contact, and then go up from there:
Department Head (DH)
First Officer (FO)
Commanding Officer (CO)
Commander in Chief (CinC)

As a reminder, Federation Space is an RPG that is made up of players from all over the world. Because of this, we ask that you have patience with other players, realizing that it might take a few days for a reply. As in our Constitution, you’re supposed to post twice a week. If you find that you can’t make that posting rate, you can request a Leave of Absence (LOA). It’s easy to do: you simply email your DH, FO, and CO saying you need a LOA, letting them know the reason and when you expect to be back. This way, you won’t have players wondering where you’ve gone to, or you wondering where another player has gone to.

Now, I’ve got three more questions for you to answer:
4. You are assigned to the USS Aquila's security department. What is your chain command?
5. Who was the first captain of the USS Copernicus?
6. What happened during Year 37 (2412)?

Also, please have a look at all the active starships and list your top three ship assignment preferences. This is optional, of course, as we will assign you to a suitable ship no matter what. ==

== GM ==

As they moved down the corridor, there were no visible intruders in the open hallway, though the bridge bringing the ship to red alert had sent the corridor into a harsh, pulsing red light that made seeing long distance difficult.

The first sign of unusual activity was an ajar door seven doors down on the left, in the very center of section 6. The door looked as if it had been forced open with both sides of the door no longer in their track. There was an occasional clicking noise as if the door's mechanism was attempting to close but was unable to due to the state of the door's panels.

Through the door yawned a deep darkness but it looked like there might have been large outlines consistent with storage crates. If one of them happened to look down, they'd see large, wet foot prints exiting the dark room and heading down towards the next section.

== Thankyou for the wonderful comments and I will try harder at the smaller portions you pointed out and I appreciate you for being nit-picky, it will hopefully only serve to make my writing skills better.

As for the answers, they are as follows;

A) If I were serving as a security officer aboard the U.S.S. Aquila, my Chain of Command would be; Department Head- CoS Lieutenant Commander Shione Kurasa, First Officer- Commander Beno Velaul, Commanding Officer- Captain Daniel Brooks and then the CinC, Fleet Admiral T'Mana.

B) The first captain of the U.S.S. Copernicus was Captain Ysiadina Lanael.

C) The only Information I can find relating to the year 2412 is that Captain Gabriel Archer (Ret.) was made the CO of the U.S.S. Intrepid and Captain Mattiana (Ret.) was made the CO of the U.S.S Yeager.
Hopefully the last answer is what you were looking for but I was informed during my Character Bio phase that the timeline/dates were shifted slightly and are still being corrected throughout the whole site. Please see Post #3.

For Ships I would like to be posted to, they are;
U.S.S. Yeager
U.S.S Artemis
U.S.S. Titania

Now to continue the story. ==

== Leo Alden - Cadet Security Officer ==

Leo stopped moving forwards and lent against the wall, his phaser still aimed down the hallway as Moran moved past him and also stopped just a few meters ahead. He checked the path behind them, double checking that no one was about to sneak up on them before moving off again. Leo lowered his phaser slightly as he walked past Moran, and took a good look at everything before him as he came to another stop.

As Moran set off again, continuing their leapfrog movements down the corridor, the lights greatly dimmed before being illuminated by the pulsing red glow that signified a Red Alert, Moran paused and looked at Leo for a brief moment before heading forwards once more.

“Hey, what’s that up head on the left.” Moran said aloud.

As Leo took point, he pressed himself against the right wall whilst still moving closer to the first signs of a disturbance, Leo saw the door had been badly damaged. So badly in fact that both halves of the door were no longer in their runners and were jammed open. As Leo inched closer, he started to look into the room but it was too dark in there to see anything clearly from his current position and then he faltered.

Think, Ginge, think. Stop. Breathe. Take stock of the situation. Act accordingly.

Leo’s thoughts steadied as quickly as they started racing and he steeled himself. Moving over to the left wall and up to the doors, pressing their backs to the wall, he spoke calmly, knowing that he had to be in control of this moment.

“Nice and easy, I’ll cover left and you right. Ready Moran?”

With a nod from his comrade, Leo ducked a little as he stepped towards the door and pivoted on one foot and aimed his phaser into the darkness. Moran stepped around Leo and into the doorway almost simultaneously, but stood a little behind Leo, covering the opposite side of the room. A cursory glance around the dimly lit room didn’t reveal much, but what little red light came in through the door, showed outlines of storage containers but he couldn’t be sure.

“Look down. There’s footprints leading into and down the hallway. What should we do now?” Moran said quietly

Nothing seemed to move or react to their sudden appearance at the doorway but Leo couldn’t take that chance so he took a deep breath and replied just as quietly but making sure he could be heard over the whirring and clicking of the broken doors mechanisms.

“Ok. Check this room out, just in case anything else is still in here and I'll follow the prints. Shout if you need me”

Nodding to Moran, Leo took a step backwards from the door and looked down at what Moran had pointed out.

Wet footprints. Why wet?

Holding the pistol out in front of him, Leo walked cautiously further down the corridor. Nothing else so far seemed to be damaged or disturbed as he continued following the prints towards Section 7.

== Crewman Moran - Temp Security NPC ==

Moran and Leo continued to move through the corridor of Section 6, moving past one another in turn, watching everything around them as they did so and making sure they didn’t aim their phasers at each other as they moved.

So far so good. Hopefully there's nothing here.

Stepping forwards, Moran felt uneasy, his thoughts were starting to haunt him, his nerves were screaming, he was glad that Leo took charge and then he froze as he jumped out of his skin, the sound of the Red Alert scaring Moran half to death.
He looked over his shoulder and looked at Leo, before finishing his forward movement.

How is he so calm? Can he tell I don’t like this? Oh God, he knows I'm nervous, he knows I'm not confident enough to do this

The pulse of the red light lit the now dimmed hall before them and Moran stopped, leaning on the right wall of the corridor and noticed that the wall on the left, just ahead of them, didn’t look quite right.

“Hey, what’s that up head on the left.”

Leo glided past him and rested against the wall in front of himself, trying to get a better look Moran supposed before he moved up and closed the gap between them. The doors were badly damaged, wedged open even, and the mechanics of the door could be heard, still trying to close the door that was no longer able to.

Did something break in? Or did it break out?

He watched his teammate inch forward a little and pause for a moment before crossing to the opposite wall and sidle up to the broken doorway. He watched the man take a breath before he realised he had been spoken to.

“Nice and easy, I’ll cover left and you right. Ready Moran?”

Moran nervously nodded in response and not a moment passed before he watched Leo pivot into the doorway and raise his phaser. Without thinking, he followed suit and stepped past Leo, stopping just the other side of him and aimed into the darkness that hung in the room. It was way too dark to see anything but nothing attacked them as they stood there in the door, but he did notice that he had slipped slightly as he stepped around Leo. Looking down, he saw why.

“Look down. There’s footprints leading into and down the hallway. What should we do now?” He said quietly

He wasn’t sure if he spoke too quietly, but his mind eased when his teammate responded in kind.

“Ok. Check this room out, just in case anything else is still in here and I'll follow the prints. Shout if you need me” Leo replied.

OK! OK! CHECK THE ROOM OUT! ALONE!

Before Moran had settled his screaming thoughts, Leo had stepped out of the room and began following the trail of prints down the hall.

Sure, I’ll scream while being attacked, cause you’ll hear that! He thought both sarcastically and nervously.

Taking a big gulp of air rather than breathing deeply, Moran tried to replicate the composure his companion had shown, although with very little effect on his nerves. Raising his phaser, aiming into the darkness of the room, some storage containers revealed their outline as the red light pulsed out in the hallway.

“If anyone’s in here, show yourself. I am armed” He shouted.

Stepping into the dark, he aimed all around, trying to cover all the bases as he slowly took step after step into the room.

== Final Lesson:

Hello Cadet, Welcome to your final lesson. For this lesson, we will not be continuing the story. Instead, you will write a practice an introductory post.  This assignment is to write a post as if it were your very first day reporting to your ship assignment. Choose a ship on our forums and report to the Commanding Officer on the bridge. Make sure to do your research about the ship you choose (who the Commanding Officer is and other details about the ship).  Include a description of your character in the post.

Your first post on your assigned ship is a very important post. It will be the very first impression your new crew will have of your character so they can interact with you. Use the techniques learned throughout the past lessons in your post.  There is no need to include an NRC in your post.

If you have any questions, ask - and have fun! ==

When he finally arrived at Star Base 214, Leo didn’t waste any time in locating and transferring himself across to the Yeager. It was still in a repair dock and with no damage to be seen, he thought it would be ready to go at a moment's notice and hurried himself along. As Leo carried his belongings towards the catwalk to enter his new home, he stared out of each passing window and noted to himself that as much as he saw that the ship was of the Pathfinder Class, he also saw that it was somehow different.

What a beautiful ship!

Leo had heard of the Yeager but some things that he heard in the academy were widely considered rumour but some investigating of his own during his journey here showed him just how impressive the ship was, especially in the right hands and despite Starfleet's apprehension to the ship by giving it a very discreet, unceremonious launch and attempting to keep it as an out of sight cargo runner. The crew, he noticed in his study of the ship, were also quite impressive. Mostly transferring from the U.S.S. Philadelphia with a handful of other transfers and a number of newly graduated officers, a couple of whom that Leo recognised, or at least their names.

So, most of them already work in a tight-nit manner, otherwise the captain wouldn’t have kept working with them, and some other new recruits. This is going to be fun, isn’t it?

Leo considered how he would fit in with such an already established family and began to sweat at the idea of possibly not fitting in at all. Captain Braggins alone had an extensive and highly decorated career which by itself made his new captain rather intimidating.

Trust is earned. Loyalty is proven. Friendship is given. Just do a good job, that’s all. You don’t have to be an over achieving hero to make it. And don’t ruffle any feathers. Leo recited internally.

The paragraph from his father’s reply to a message he sent about his graduation, rattled around in his head as he walked across the docking port and into the U.S.S. Yeager. The light bounced off of his ginger hair, giving it an almost pulsing glow as he walked through the starship and he nodded his wordless greeting to the crewman who passed him in the corridor. After locating and having a brief discussion with the quartermaster, Leo found his quarters and dropped his bags by the bed before he checked and corrected his uniform and double checked his new rank pip.

Making his way back through the corridors, his hazel eyes lit up like a child on its birthday as he learnt more and more information from his Padd on his way up to the bridge. The turbo lift opened and the bridge of the Yeager appeared before him and it was a glorious sight. 4 years of training and exams had all come down to this. The first step in his career.

Stepping out of the lift, no one seemed to pay any mind to him until he stepped up to the captain's chair when he suddenly felt like everyone around him had stopped what they were doing and turned to stare at him. He shrugged off the feeling and proffered a Padd to the captain which contained his assignment details.

You're nervous. Remember to breathe and speak clearly.

“Captain Braggins, Midshipman Leo Alden. I am assigned as your new security officer.” He said maybe a little too rushed.
