Captains Log, Captain Daniel Brooks recording, stardate 01082024,

It was hard to leave the USS Charon, being my first command in the hands of someone else. However, I know am the CO of the Ross class vessel USS Aquila. Previous Captains include Zan and Braggins so it does have a legend to live up to.

The hardest part was having the merge of two crews into one. It seems as if everyone has gelled okay and in Starfleet we are use to being reassigned at a moments notice. My First Officer Commander Velaul remains as my FO, while we have had a change of Chief of Security along with Chief Science Officer and Chief Medical Officer. We also had assigned to us a temporary Chief Tactical as well.

I'm sure we will get use to each other in due course and help us build this vessel to being one of the best ships in the area.

We are however, had to respond to a distress call from the neutral zone between us and the Cardassians. Naturally we are highly suspicious and we don't want to cause an international incident but we can't sit by and allow fellow explorers die if this is a genuine emergency.

Information so far is very plain, not giving us much. I would hope that if we were in the same position then the Cardassians would come and help us. The only concern I have is that the vessel is in the middle of the neutral zone, which they shouldn't be.

End log.

Captains Log, stardate 202412.03 Captain Daniel Brooks recording,

We arrived to the distressed Cardassian vessel which was in a very much almost a floating wreck. An away team was dispatched lead by Commander Velaul to see if there was any survivors and maybe find the cause of the damage.

It came up on sensors there was a build up of power to the front of the vessel, as a precaution the Aquila was moved out of the direct path of the power build up as we weren't sure if it was some kind of weapon. Meanwhile the away team did find a few crew members injured but alive so started to transport them over including three senior bridge officers one of them being Gul Nassett. We met him on a previous mission, watching us while we were checking on a mining compound on an asteroid. We seem to have found Gul Nassett vessel again near an asteroid but this time one was blown apart. Commander Velaul managed to bring back some hardware on the first away mission that needs a code cracked to find out what the Cardassians were up to.

We can on speculate that this is what the Gul was up to the last time we came across him. Our new Security Chief lead a second away team over to see if they could work out what this experiment was on the front of the vessel that kept powering up.

This was getting close to some success but another power build up and how weak the vessel was, we removed the away team before their part of the mission was completed, we had to move the Aquila away from the vessel to get away from the next powerful explosion. We moved very quickly as the Cardassian vessel was ripped apart.

I spoke with Gul Nassett but he failed to give up any information and in fact seem to revel in the fact we weren't fully sure on what he and his crew were up to.

We then intercepted a second Cardassian vessel who was also responding to the distress call, they were happy to take their injured across and we went our separate ways. I will never be fully sure of what actually was going on and it's going to be one of those missions where we probably never will find the answer.

However, our merged crew worked very well together, it was a relief as there can always be some friction between officers in departments after a merger. It seemed as if there hasn't been hardly any and that is a big bonus for what we might face as a crew together in the next few years.

Command has said we are to head to DS9 for our downtime. I am looking forward to going there as I have heard all kinds of rumors about the place.

End log.
