Art arrived at the Cargo Bay in a clear huff, internally cursing still being assigned to a small ship. With an ideal department size, she would have had four officers at the Cargo Bay, another one or two with the Away Team, and the rest manning the department under her command. As it were, three were already off-shift on their rest, one was her, one was in Sickbay thanks to another that she was definitely not assigning anything important…
That left her six people to work with, not counting herself. As three scurried off to the Cargo Bay to see what was even going on, that left four whole people in Security. Art let off a distinctly-Klingon growl. “I’ll be right back.” She said, trying not to sound too exasperated. In reality, it was just Braggins she was mad at, and knew better than to let her emotions out on her department. She had grabbed two additional phasers on her way out, intending to hand the extras and the one on her person to the Security personnel she had just ordered out of there. Apparently the first ones there, she found her guys looking perplexed, looking how Art was feeling. “Take these,” she said, practically shoving the hand phasers at them. “Figure out what the hell is going on, and report back. In fact, when the Captain gets back, and things here are all set up… just keep open comms.” Art was done with being in the dark with Braggins. She was going to have the usually-passive cameras up for live feed in main Security, and she was going to surveille the heck out of the ship. As she walked her way back to HQ, she wondered just how much bulkhead space she could take up with CCTV. ==NPCs will be Enlistedmen F. Radley, T. Stripe and C. Bandit.==

Alexander and his two helpers arrived in the cargo bay ready to get to work. Being in Starfleet so far was not at all what Alexander had expected, the pace was quite frenetic. "Lieutenant d'Toran a pleasurrre to see you again. What brings you to the cargo bay?" Alexander asked curiously. "I am here with my two companions to prepare it to receive some incoming cargo, cryo pods I believe." Alexander indicated towards Johnson and Thar. "Johnson you start stacking all the large containers over by the far wall. Thar those barrels over there need to be pushed up against that far wall stacked and securrred." Alexander pointed out the containers and barrels as he spoke and where he wanted them stacked and both the enlisted men jumped into action. "Aye sir." They replied as they started to work. ==Tag d'Toran. GM input does Alexander or the enlisted men helping him have any trouble securing the cargo bay?==

There was no problem in securing the Cargo Bay for its new use, but there was still much work to be done. They would need to find power sources for the cryo-pods, space for emergency medical equipment, and possibly an area for the dead.

With the cargo bay mostly cleared and secured, it was time to move on to their second and more daunting task, which was to prepare it to receive the inbound cryo pods and their passengers.
"Johnson, see if you can find a nearby EPS junction we can splice off of to keep the pods powered up." Johnson moved smartly towards the nearby wall where a Jeffries tube cover could be seen and started to remove the cover. "Thar I need you to start replicating conduit and everything else we need to join the EPS grid with the pods themselves." Thar also moved with a purpose after all non of them knew just how much time they had, but it likely wasn't much. As Johnson and Thar moved off to start their tasks Alexander started to design the lay out of where everything would be laid out to optimize the minimal space that they had available to them. The wall nearest the Jeffries tube was the logical location to start placing pods and the walls nearest the cargo they had secured was a good place to put anything else that was brought over, including unfortunately possibly bodies. ==GM input are Alexander and his team successful in their initial setup of the cargo bay so that pods can start being brought on board?==

Ktan entered the cargo bay flanked by crewmen Paige and Wallace. Both human, the pair couldn't have cast any more different physical presence if they tried. While Paige was short and slight, even for a human, and tended to fade into the background of any room she was in, Crewman Wallace was tall - nearly as tall as Ktan himself - a well muscled. In fact, had it not been for his blue accented uniform, any passerby would have guessed he was a security specialist. The trio walked in to find an engineering team already had at work, having pushed relocated and reorganized as much of the cargo here as they could, and were now working on the power systems. "Go see how you can be helpful," Ktan said gruffly, annoyed at continually being late for assignments. "I'll check in with whoever they have in command." "Aye sir," Paige squeaked, before tugging on Wallace's sleeve and leading him over to the nearby jeffries tube. Ktan, meanwhile, located the officer in charge almost immediately - a caitian midshipman who had also been on the away mission. Midshipman Turner. I suppose that puts me in command, Ktan pondered, further irritated that protocol would dictate him stepping all over the midshipman's toes, despite Ktan's tardiness. Stepping gracefully to where Turner stood, Ktan offered a short bow and let out a feline sound from his throat that other felinoid species would understand as an attempt at extreme politeness. "Midshipman," Ktan said. "Your team is doing excellent work. Could you provide a quick report on your progress?" == Tag Turner ==

The setup, in theory, was fairly simple, so getting the area prepared for the cryo-pods was achieved pretty quickly. Testing the setup and ensuring it worked, however, would require an actual cryopod. As it stood, they would at the very least need to create a transformer that would "step down" the amount of raw energy going into the pods' systems. The Yeager's power distribution network was not designed to operate at such low current, and would fatally overload any 22nd century tech connected to it.

The progress in the cargo bay was moving along rather smoothly and Alexander was pleased. Then just as he was finishing up his plan for how everything would all eventually be laided out his fellow feline crewmate Ktan approached with a friendly bow.
"Midshipman," Ktan said. "Your team is doing excellent work. Could you provide a quick report on your progress?" Alexander returned the courteous bow as he replied. "Lieutenant, I have Thar and Johnson laying out power conduit and accessing the EPS grid over there for the cryo pods." Alexander indicated the wall nearest the Jeffries tube. "I also thought we could place anything else that is beamed aboard, over here by the secured cargo. Not at all sure what exactly might be coming other than the pods.." He shrugged. "We still are going to need to figure out a way to adaptor power systems to the pods though. Was just starting to wonder how as you came in." Alexander shrugged his shoulders again as he pondered what would be necessary and waited Ktan's response.

The felines in the cargo bay would notice a solitary wolf enter the room, laden with medical equipment. The former KDF officer, now a Star Fleet Lieutenant, walked into the room and began to set down his cases of medical equipment, along with a Klingon tricorder designed for his paws. Kal-Geal then approached the felines in the cargo bay as Turner gave his report and said, "Ensign, Midshipman. I brought some medical equipment for assisting with reviving cryosleep patients, which I will upload the instructions for safe construction and operation to everyone's tricorder database here." Despite being slightly smaller than Ktan, Kal-Geal didn't seem to be perturbed by the larger feline, nor by the presence of two other potential predators (by San-Tarah standards) in the bay. "The Klingon Empire still has a few troop ships that use cryogenic technology for storage of their ground forces. They utilize a dedicated fusion generator for their pods, so that enemy fire doesn't take out the pods with power surges from EPS conduits. Do you think there is there a way you could rig up one of the ship's auxiliary power generators through....what was it called....a power governor, and regulate the low levels of power produced from an auxiliary generator? That might be enough power to keep their pods going, and prevent any power fluctuations from the EPS grid from affecting any of the cryopods." Kal-Geal looked between the engineer and the scientist, hoping they might have an idea as well, since relying on only one idea wasn't often the wisest choice, especially with ancient technology. ==tag==

An Engineering Midshipman asked Art what brought her down to the Cargo Bay; she could only pointedly look at the three Enlistedmen who were bickering between themselves, albeit jovially. If she didn’t know better, she would have thought they were all brothers. “Help Engineering out!” She barked at them, feeling much like how she imagined her mother must have felt, raising four children with Klingon genetics. Art wondered if being a Department Head was altogether much different than raising children. A Science Ensign came in and instructed their people much the same way she just had with hers, and so satisfied, nodded and headed back out the door. She’d start monitoring all aspects of the ship after her short trip back to her department. If no one was going to openly tell her anything, then she was just going to have to find things out for herself. Art just hoped that her surveillance didn’t find anyone on the toilet. >>Security>>

[Jensen to Cargo Bay. We're gonna have unwanted company in 27 minutes. You need to be ready in 25]
Not getting any response from the pair of officers, who seemed to be lost in thought, Kal-Geal began to unpack all of the medical equipment on his own, and then looked at the Engineering and Security enlisted. The Child of San-Tarah then yipped at them in the language of his people to get their attention, before motioning them over. "Crewmen from Security and Engineering, we're going to have to do this quickly since Commander Jensen needs alacrity. Security, I need these emergency biobeds moved over to section 4 right next to the incoming pods. They have their own power sources, so there is no need to connect them to the power grid. Engineering, I need a micro-fusion generator along with a phased power modulator and a synchronous transform power governor attached to the EPS grid. The generator should be able to produce supplementary power to smooth out the pulses along the power grid, and the modulator and governor need to be connected as the final stage of power distribution to the pods when they arrive. The governor should be set to only accept power requirements from the cryopods, that way we don't overload their internal power supplies. We'll need a portable modulator at both ends of the governor to smooth out the frequency pulses as I do not trust the cryopods to be able to handle any potential power spikes. Get to it, we only have twenty minutes to prepare." Kal-Geal then began to set up a temporary morgue in a corner of the cargo bay, though he called for help from sickbay for a few technicians to drop by to operate the biobeds with him, as well as set up an emergency blood plasma transfusion system in case the cryopods were of the older type that added the cryogen solution to the patient's blood vessels. ==GM Input: Are the Engineering crewmen able to set up said system to be able to regulate power from the EPS grid so it doesn't burn out the pods? Also, is medical able to set up their emergency station without incident?== ==Tag D'Toran for her Security Crewmen==

Setting up a temporary medical station within the Cargo Bay was far easier than anyone without an Engineering background would have imagined; Starfleet ships were routinely called upon to perform search-and-rescue or evacuation missions, where wounded would often overwhelm the capacity of the ship's standard medical facilities, so Cargo Bays and other open spaces were designed to be quickly and easily converted into triage or recovery wards.
The Engineering crewmen quickly figured out how to cobble-together a converter that would sufficiently restrict the power flow to be compatible with 22nd-century tech. They warned that it was a temporary measure, suitable only for temporarily maintaining the pods until the occupants could be awakened; a long-term solution would take time, time which Jensen had stated they no longer had.

The First Officer’s voice came over the Cargo Bay’s general address system for all to hear: [Jensen to Cargo Bay. We're gonna have unwanted company in 27 minutes. You need to be ready in twenty-five.] Unwanted company? The three enlisted security men looked at each other, their exchanges both wary and ready. That phrase could mean anything, and coming from the FO, a former Security man himself, it didn’t sound good. It certainly lit a fire under the medical officer’s butt. “Security, I need these emergency biobeds moved over to section 4 right next to the incoming pods. They have their own power sources, so there is no need to connect them to the power grid. Engineering, I need…” He was using big words, and while Stripe and Bandit looked at each other and shrugged, Radley got right to work, motioning to the other two that they should hurry up and help him. They didn’t bother asking anything else of the big guy in blue, because he was still spouting complicated jargon that meant nothing to them. They kinda felt bad for Engineering, but doggedly kept at their task. “Rad, keep your end up!” “I am keeping my end up, don’t bark at me!” ==GM: Are they boys able to move the biobeds successfully?==
10-18-2024, 07:23 PM
Aside from them being ridiculously heavy, the biobeds caused no difficulty for those assigned to dragging them across the deck and plugging them in. Nobody's toes got crushed, either.

==Combined CO and CO-GM Post==
As the work continued and the medical area was set up, the room was filled with the humming of transporter materialisation. First, four Starfleet Officers and one raggedy-looking man in a dark jumpsuit; Braggins had him in an arm lock and released him the moment they had finished materialising. As if in shock, the fifth man dropped to the floor and began to frantically look around, eyes darting this way and that as he took in his surroundings. Next came the cryopods; those identified as needing emergency power materialised at the stations that had been completely set up, while those whose batteries were still largely intact were deposited out of the way, ready to be moved using antigrav dollies when needed. One pod began to wail an alarm, indicating an issue with the resuscitation sequence. It had been interrupted while in process, and had stalled beyond the critical point where it could be reversed. The occupant, one Doctor Liam Kiernan, needed to be extricated and revived before he suffered critical brain damage. Ignoring the wailing alarm or the shellshocked Lockley on the floor in front of her, Jenny took in the conversion to the Yeager's Cargo Bay and made a quick mental note to put commendations in the personnel files of whoever had worked so quickly. As medics and engineers began to swarm the pods, Jenny beckoned to Qi to follow her; they were both needed on the Bridge more than they were needed in the Cargo Bay - this was now Beinn's domain, at least until or unless D'Tor'an arrived to take charge of the passengers once they awoke.
10-25-2024, 07:02 AM
The materialization of the Captain caused Kal-Geal's ears to raise up to alertness. Shortly earlier, he had just ordered more of his medical staff to the cargo bay to prepare for incoming pods, despite the First Officer giving them so little time between updates. However, his medical staff was up to the task, and as the pods materialized in, he barked out an order to his staff to connect their modified power supplies to the incoming pods.
Kal-Geal was not idle however, and began to run on all fours to Kiernan's pod, making it there faster than most medical officers could and said, "I need a dose of a cryonic metastabilizer added to the pod's cryofluid suspension as soon as we get the tricorder readings in. That should account for the age of the freezing fluid, and prevent any more cell damage due to rapid heating. Once the preservation fluid has been removed from his system, we'll determine the best course of action from there. Have the cortical stimulators on hand in case neural activity decreases, and I'll need the cargo transporter to beam one of our stasis pods in here, just in case the pod fails to function." Kal-Geal looked over at Captain Braggins and said, "Captain. I appreciate the work, but I will need all non-essential personnel to leave the cargo bay. Quarantine of this area is in effect until we can bring the immunization profiles of the pod occupants up to date with current medical science. The biofilter should have taken care of most of the biological contaminants, but I don't like taking chances." He tapped his communicator and said, "Beinn to Security. Pods have arrived, along with guests. I would prefer human personnel to be present, given the culture shock we might be facing given the age of the ship." Another couple of taps later on the badge had him adding, "Beinn to Bridge. If we go into battle, I would recommend switching the cargo bay's power grid supply to the auxiliary fusion generator on deck six to reduce the chances of an EPS power surge taking out the delicate power distribution grid we've set up. That should free up more warp power, and reduce harmonic interference in the power governors that are attached to the cryopods." Beinn took out his medical tricorder and began to analyze Kiernan's pod, trying to see what was the biggest problem he had to face with the ancient cryogenic pod would be. "Midshipman Sara, I need you to look after our new guest here. Make sure he stays mentally aware of what's going on, as we don't need any misunderstandings." ==GM Input: What does the tricorder report, and does it give any advice on how to proceed with the doctor's pod?==
10-30-2024, 01:57 PM
Though the Tricorder could not give advice on the situation, but the information it did give would lead to a fairly simple medical conclusion:
Dr. Kiernan's heart rate was abysmally slow as a result of the hibernation process, meaning that blood was not pumping sufficiently around his system. His neural readings were equally low, for the same reason, meaning the body's automatic processes were not currently functioning. Both would need to be restored to normal within the next few minutes if Kiernan was to survive without major brain damage.

Of note: They are Human (or Human-passing), but do have “unnatural” colored hair)== When the First Officer’s voice came on over the cargo bay’s intercom, the three men stopped and listened. [Jensen to Cargo Bay. Strike that, you now have less than 10 minutes before our unwelcome visitors appear. Get it done in 8.] There were a couple of raised eyebrows, due to the “ ‘unwelcome’ visitors” part of the message. Instead of verbally answering the First Officer, the three enlistedmen decided unanimously and quietly that they would double-time it. The distinct sound of a transporter disrupted the room, and all eyes were on the forms as they were deposited onto the Yeager. Five people in all, one of them the Captain, and Radley, Stripe and Bandit all snapped to attention. Bandit moved slightly, as if to go and assist the man who had fallen to the floor, but he stopped himself when no one on the Captain’s team moved to assist him, either. Around them, the stasis pods were being transported into place thanks to Starfleet technology; one blared an alarm and caused Stripe to put his hands over his ears. Radley went to help the medical team, and Bandit could only watch, confused, as Captain Braggins swiftly left the area. ==(Human) Security Midshipman Ophelia Wharton. Straight blonde hair, bright blue eyes, Nineteen years old.== Ophelia entered the Cargo Bay after Captain Braggins had left; in fact, she missed the woman by about 13 seconds. The young Middie stopped as soon as the doors closed behind her, clearly stunned at what was going on in front of her. There were stasis pods, non-Starfleet, lining the walls, there was a man on the floor who looked distraught, and two Starfleet officers standing next to him, looking lost as to what they should do. Knowing she would be of no use to the Chief Medical Officer dealing with an emergency over to her left, she instead made a beeline to the civilian on the floor. “Hi there,” she said softly to him, giving him a small smile. “Are you feeling okay? My name’s Ophelia.” ==Beinn: The Security enlistedman who came over to help you is named F. Radley, and he is Human-passing, with a hairstyle that makes one think of a “typical California surfer”, with blue highlights in his hair.== ==Tag to Kiernan and Hydish!!!== ==GM: What is the civilian’s response to Security Midshipman Wharton?==

Lockley's eyes widened even further as he took in the cavernous cargo bay, itself several times the volume of his entire ship. As he realised what had occurred, he patted himself down frantically as if trying to ensure his entire body had survived the transportation sequence.
His eyes flicked left and right, flitting between the people hurrying about, and eventually landing on the lupine Chief Medical Officer. "Wh...where...where am I?"
11-07-2024, 06:06 PM
Peter's voice came through clearly after Beinn had explained the idea:
[Jensen here. If Engineering says go, then go]
11-12-2024, 07:33 AM
Kal-Geal looked at the engineers on the deck and said, "If you concur, then get us on auxiliary power so we don't have a power spike that'll take out our part of the grid, and potentially wipe out our setup."
Kal-Geal then turned to the doctor in the thawing cryotube, and went for the medical kit. He pulled out a physiostimulator and set it to link with his tricorder. "I need two people with me." He looked to his staff and added, "I need someone with the neuro stimulator and another with our cardio stimulator while I'm modulating his metabolic rates to return him to health function. Synchronize our instruments together so that they can work in tandem without any disruptive harmonics." He tapped in a request for one of the morgue's stasis chambers to be beamed over to the cargo bays just in case, as the stasis device could in a pinch, return Dr. Kiernan to a state of stasis so they could fix the damage before a correct revivification could be done. It might also be useful in transporting more urgent cases to the pod since they'd already be frozen, and the system could be programmed to reverse the other variant of cryosleep at work. Intently working on the doctor, Kal-Geal replied to Lockley, "You're aboard the USS Philadelphia. Please, try to stay calm, I am doing my best to revive this person without damage." ==tag Engineering== ==GM Input: Is the combination of the medical equipment able to safely allow Dr. Kiernan to thaw out without any brain damage?==

==Human Security Midshipman Ophelia Wharton. Straight blonde hair, bright blue eyes, nineteen years old.==
While the man patted himself down, Ophelia tried to keep his focus on her. There was a wolf in the corner standing on their back feet, tending to another ‘guest’, and the two Security men that stood by, while she trusted, knew could make a person nervous. However, Beinn was not one to be missed, and the man’s eyes focused right on him. "Wh...where...where am I?" “You’re somewhere safe.” Ophelia said gently. She allowed herself to throw a half-glance towards the medical officer, to acknowledge to their guest that yes, she saw him, too. “That’s one of our doctors.” She said, “His name is Kal.” Ophelia tried to keep things simple; the man didn’t need to try and process alien names right now. Possibilities of answers ran through her head; how much could she tell him? Well, he did come from a space-faring vessel… “You’re on a starship we call the Yeager.” She tried to get his attention back and smile at him. “Like Chuck Yeager, right? The first Human to break the sound barrier?” She faltered as she realized that she probably shouldn’t have said ‘the first human’. Well, the man was staring at what he would consider a sentient dire-wolf, he would piece together that Humans were not alone in the galaxy. ==Tag GM: How does the civilian respond?==

The technology worked wonders; it was almost a magical experience, even for Kal-Geal, whose prior experience had been with Klingon technology was like working with leeches in comparison to Starfleet technology. Kiernan's vital signs stabilised. Immediately, however, he regained consciousness and there was suddenly an urgend banging from within the chamber. ==Ophelia== Lockley's wild eyes continued to scan the room, finally settling on Kal-Geal.
