Reyna nodded to Beno, "Yes, there are certain things that are very important, but I seldom see people teaching others. I think many don't understand even for themselves. A person must be honest with themselves about who they are. You need to be able to understand who you are, what you're capable of and what your limitations are. It's like having a map with a big mark on it that says where you're starting from. Without that, it is hard to really know where you're going or how to get there. I'm surprised at how many people don't like themselves. They constantly try to be someone they aren't. You can't expect people to like you if you don't even like yourself."
She smiled and admired how her nails looked, "I like what you said about being built different. Everyone is different, but there is a distinct difference in the design of male and female creatures. The standard differences considered, there are vast differences in the biological factors before you even get to the cultural ones. I'm most fascinated by the variance in brain chemistry. Evolutionary development of some hormonal and neural receptor combinations, those alone can be attributed to survival of the species in the most formative years leading into proto-civilization developments. Given the majority of people I observe, I'm amazed that most worlds ever developed the ability to leave their home planets. I agree with you that embracing the natural differences is important. Knowing who you are and going with your strengths."
Looking at Beno, she said, "Almost everyone I ever meet sees me only as a kid. I don't blame them for it, but they call me a cute child. You are one of the few that see not just who and what I am now, but the future me as well. You talk about things I'm preparing for. I don't feel cute around you, I feel pretty. Confidence I have, that's easy. It's hard to be nice though when people talk as if you're still in a diaper and want to pinch your cheek, give you a piece of candy and expect you to wander off to drool in a corner. This part of my life has certainly taught me a great deal about patience, especially with idiots."
Reyna looked a bit bothered as she asked, "Do you ever find it hard dealing with people when so many of them are so much less smart than you are?" She flopped back in her seat and looked up in a comical way, "I'm SO glad that you and my dad are smart enough that you guys understand me. I can't imagine what life would be like if I were smarter than my parents." She then sat up, looking concerned, "Wait, you don't think Cindy would have engineered me, do you? I've never actually looked at my entire DNA sequence and compared it. I know the standard breakdown of it, but...hmmm...I need to remember to do that. Were you smarter than your parents? You seem smarter than most Trill I've met, but I've not met a joined Trill before."
