Reyna gave a tiny sigh and gave a nod, "I understand. If it is something he needs to do, then I'll endure it for him. I sense him struggling with it, but maybe he will hold off until he thinks I'm interested in someone. At the moment, life is confusing enough and I haven't even hit puberty yet, so I think I can convince him that I have no interest in such things. I'm pretty sure he'll buy it for now. I mean, it isn't exactly a lie, not really. As far as interest, that horse is already out of the barn, but the reality is that it doesn't matter for at least the next handful of years, maybe a decade. Statistically speaking I'm relatively safe from the reality of it for at least three to four years. I don't know when my mom hit puberty, but she had strange genetics anyway. My aunt died at 12, but her and my dad had bit somewhere between 10 and 11, because I've seen holovids of her just before she died."
Reyna shook her head to clear her thoughts, "Sorry, I'm digressing. My point is that I should be safe from him worrying about it for a few more years." Her face scrunched up, "Just don't tell dad about what I said, okay? He's worried enough about my mental health. I'm working hard on being able to block things out and was trying really hard to give you guys your privacy. How was I supposed to know? I thought you guys had fallen asleep, so I went back to sleep. Unfortunately, what I thought was a really strange dream was me waking up to...well..." Reyna blushed again. "After that, I needed to use the bathroom and to take a moment. I was having trouble getting back to sleep, understandably, and although I don't know how much time had passed, that's when I saw you. I think you were sleep-walking...or something. After everything that had happened, I took your hand and when you lay back down, you still held my hand and the whole time that feeling just kept getting stronger. I curled up with you and it was...wonderful. I think you thought I was someone else though, because you said the word Tatiana. I looked it up and it means almost the same as my name. Tatiana means descended from kings and Reyna means queen. It also said that a short name for Tatiana is Tanya, which is very close to Reyna."
Reyna shrugged, "Anyway, I promise to work hard on getting better control of my brain. I feel fine talking to you about this, because it feels sorta like a girl thing that maybe it isn't so weird to talk about. I'm pretty sure that my dad might freak out a little bit about it and I really don't want to risk him getting all protective and blowing it between you two. When it is science, he is a genius, but with people, he's a bit of a work in progress. I'm not great at the people thing either, but I'm six. If you two start getting romantic, I can do the equivalent of holding my breath, but it's with my brain, sorta. I did it before, I just didn't read how the night was going. Again, I'm only six and apparently I don't know everything yet. I consider it to be a lesson learned. Don't get me wrong, it was...um...what I mean is that it was suppose to be between you two and I shouldn't have accidentally been part of that...or run over by it...I'm not sure how to describe it really, but let's move on. My dad tried to warn me about these things and now I really understand why he was so worried. On the upside, if I was going to mentally walk in on anyone, I guess it is good that it happened with you guys."
She paused and then wondered out loud to Beno, "You know, now that I think about it, I wonder if this is a normal thing for Betazoid kids. They all tend to bond with their parents at some point, so it has to be relatively common. Maybe this just seems like a big deal because I'm part human." Reyna took in a deep breath and let it out slowly, almost like a breathing exercise, "Yep, I'm going to need to review my DNA and read up on this more. I may have more work ahead of me. By the way, I look forward to eventually telling you about that puppy love thing, as well as crying on your shoulder when it ends. Try to keep your schedule open though, I don't have any current prospects on my list."
Reyna gave a sassy wink at the last comment, but then smiled and patted Beno's hand, "Good talk, mom." The warm feeling that came with it was both playful and deeply loving. Beno could feel that Reyna had been desperately needing what Beno was giving her. Alex was being a great dad, but he didn't know how to be a mom. They had Cindy, but clearly she was more of a babysitter than a mother to Reyna. Reyna didn't seem like she was six, but she was still a kid in many ways that counted.
