Reyna looked a little embarrassed, "I know what you mean. Sometimes I'm too sarcastic in my use of humor, but it helps me express myself sometimes. I know i'm only getting fragments and not the entire story, though sometimes I think that might be for the best. I'm not sure I want to know what tequila spiked jello off of someone's bare skin tastes like."
Her interest spiked a bit when the conversation went to sensory shifts, "The brian is remarkable in how it can rewire to some degree. I read a couple of cases where a sensor pad was placed on the tongue of a man that went blind and after a few weeks, he could define images based on the feeling through his tongue. He wasn't seeing with it, but could imagine images as if they were black and white, but blurry. He knew he wasn't seeing, but his brain was compensating in a new way. To your point though, too much of something can be a bad thing, but when triggering memories, even the smallest amount can be a strong reminder. If a stimulation is for something very good, tiny smells, tastes or the lightest touch can be very powerful. I've used body heat to help teach that to people, though they don't know it is body heat at the time."
Reyna took Beno's hand and had her place it palm up on the table. She then used one finger and without touching Beno's hand, kept it about 1-2 millimeters from her skin and moved it slowly across her palm causing Beno to feel the movement of the finger, even though the two never touched. Reyna then said, "Now, close your eyes while I do it again." She did and Reyna said, "Here we go." Reyna began doing the same thing, but very carefully stopped right after she had started, however, Beno thought she felt the finger tracing the same path again, until she opened her eyes and saw that Rayna wasn't near her hand anymore. "At what point did I stop using my finger on your hand?" She smiled, "That's a combination of the power of suggestion and your own brain duplicating the sensation from a tiny fragment of input." In truth, Beno had no idea when Reyna had stopped using her finger close to her hand, but it had felt the same as the first time.
When they were having their desserts, after a few bites, Reyna asked, "Can I try a small bite of your strawberry one?" Beno let her and Reyna only took a tiny bite on her fork and tried it, but ate it very slowly, looking like she was thinking about it very hard as she did so. After a moment, she said, "Excuse me, I'll be right back."
Without waiting for an answer, she got up and walked slowly, but deliberately to the bathroom.
While Reyna was away from the table, Alex gave a devilish grin and said, "Maybe we should get a slice of that to take home with us?"
